Born and raised in Ba Sing Se, Kusa lived with her parents in the lower ring. When she was about 7 her father went off into the war to fight against the Fire Nation, telling her that she was to take care of her mother no matter what until he got back, before he left, but didn't come back. The news of her fathers death shattered her mothers heart. Kusa was too young to truly understand how and why her father had died.

Now Kusa is 18 and living with her mother in the same home in the lower ring of Ba Sing Se. Her mother had grown ill the day before and was let go at her job, so Kusa stepped up to the plate and got a job. She now works at the Jasmine Dragon as a waitress.
