Meroko is a rabbit shinigami with long ears, and can transform into what appears a stuffed toy of an anthropomorphic bunny.
She is jealous because of Takuto's affection for Mitsuki, a 12 year old who dreams to become a singer; and occasionally vents her wrath on Mitsuki. She fears that Mitsuki will make Takuto recover his memories, and if he does, he will become a ghost. In the end, Meroko has become considerably softened and finally realizes that she has loved Izumi all along.
Meroko was once Izumi's partner, but he did not return her feelings. Izumi eventually grew tired of Meroko's constant declarations of love and tricked her into accepting a new partnership by sending her to train Takuto in his place. Although Meroko tried to fall in love with Takuto, she was never able to forget about Izumi. In the end, Meroko and Izumi become partners again.
Meroko's name was Moe Rikyo when she was alive, and was best friends with Fuzuki. Mitsuki's grandmother, Fuzuki, was engaged to be married and Moe was a 16-year-old girl. Eventually they both meet a violinist and the trio spend much time together from then on. Moe fell for the violinist, but he loved Fuzuki. He became engaged to Fuzuki and her former fiancé was passed on to Moe. When she was told the news, she rushed to Fuzuki's house to see if it was true and caught Fuzuki and the violinist kissing, then ran off. Moe slit her wrists and bled to death due to suicidal depression.
