Wow. 40 years. That was way before I was born. Nevertheless, I find it fascinating.
As my dream is to be an astronaut, I thought it appropriate for me to try to honor the space program in my profile.
I probably grew interested in science through science fiction. Specifically, I enjoy space operas. My favorites are Star Trek in its various incarnations and Babylon 5. I also enjoy reading science fiction.

But science fiction is only fiction until we advance a little farther, as was shown by the moon landing.

At the height of the Cold War, the United States extended its reach to Earth's nearest neighbor. After the Soviet Union beat the United States to space with the first artificial satellite, the first living animal in space, and the first man in space, the United States felt the need to beat the Soviets to the moon. They sent astronauts across 240,000 miles to their destination. On July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed safely on the moon. Apollo 11 was a success. The United States had triumphed over the Soviet union and Communism and had set itself ahead in science and engineering. The lunar landing is an example of humanity's ingenuity, willpower, and ability to expand it's horizons.

Just wanted to drop a semi-random line in saying that your signature is completely fantastic. *sigh* If only I hadn't been changing my avatar at the very moment the "potato" version came out! crying

Anyway, a very elegant and creative job on your avatar! ~

Thank you. And as you can see, you're not the only one. ^_^ It wasn't hard to pick it since all the others mermaid theme profile kind of suck or I didn't like them. *Nod, nod.*
