Zabuza and Haku...

"It is difficult for me to become a true shinobi...If possible, I don't want to have to kill you. Nor want you to have to kill me. But if you come at me, I can destroy my kind heart with a blade, and become a true shinobi. This bridge is the place we fight to connect to our dreams. Me, for my dream, and you, for your dreams. Please don't hate me. I want to protect someone precious to me...to work for that person...to fight for that person...to make that person's dreams come true...That is my dream....for that, I can become a shinobi. I will kill you!"

The Life of the Child of the Snow

Haku was born in a small snowy village in the water country. Ravaged by civil wars, citizens of that country blamed the clans with advanced bloodlines, who were used in those wars. Advanced Bloodlines are special abilities that are passed down genetically (Uchiha's Sharingan or Hyuuga's Byakugan, for example.) and were feared for their power. People from these clans had to keep their abilities secret; if they were revealed, only death awaited them. Haku's mother came from such a clan, unbeknownst to her husband. They were happy together, tending to the fields, and trying to get by, Eventually, Haku was born on January 9th. As Haku was growing up, he discovered his abilities. His father found out; enrgaged, he killed his wife and was about to kill his son Haku as well. Haku, his powers not yet controllable, tried to defend himself, and ended up killing his father.

Haku was now all alone, living in the streets and fighting the stray dogs for food thrown in the dumpters. Cursed because of his bloodline abilities, Haku was unloved and unwanted. Zabuza found him in this state and asked him if he desired to be wanted. Zabuza knew of his abilities and wished to use him as a tool for his own purposes. Haku agreed, and Zabuza trained him in all that he knew. Haku also trained with his own special abilities, such as flying water needles and demonic ice mirrors. He even learned how to make hand seals with only one hand, a trait unhead of until that time, and which no one else has yet achieved. When Zabuza failed in assassinating the Mizukage, he and Haku both fled the Water country until Zabuza had enough resources to take over. So they hired themselves out to Gatou, an evil businessman who was taking control over the Land of the Waves.

Naruto and Co. inadvertently become involved when escorting Tazuna to his homeland, the Land of the Waves, so that he could continue to build a bridge to the mainland. Zabuza and his followers (They didn't last long.) try to kill Tazuna so that Gatou can remain in power. In their first encounter, Zabuza traps Kakashi in a water prison, and uses his water clones to attack Tazuna, Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke. Sasuke and Naruto come up with a plan, and are able to aid in freeing Kakashi. Kakashi uses his Sharingan, and is about to kill Zabuza when Zabuza supposedly gets by Senbon. Haku appears, disguised as a hunter-nin, and takes the seemingly dead body of Zabuza to get rid of the remains. In reality Haku was trying to save Zabuza, and took him back to their hideout so he could heal. Gatou appears before them to gloat over their failure, and is about to touch Zabuza (maybe to hurt him?) when Haku grabs Gatou's arm and breaks it for trying to touch Zabuza with his filthy hands. After Zabuza heals, they go after Tazuna again. Haku does not want to kill them, but to achieve Zabuza's wishes he would go against his kind heart and destroy them. He eventually uses his Demonic Ice Mirrors, and uses his senbon to kill Sasuke. Naruto's anger rises, and unleashes the chakra of the kyuubi. Naruto is able to break through Haku's Ice Mirrors. Haku, defeated, asks Naruto to kill him, since his purpose is to be Zabuza's tool. If he can not do what he is asked to do, then he is useless and has no reason to live. Naruto does not want to kill him, but Haku begs him.

Just as Naruto is about to attack, Zabuza is losing against Kakashi. Kakashi has used his nin-dogs to hold Zabuza down, and is going to use his own jutsu, Chidori to kill him. Haku senses that Zabuza is in danger, and jumps into the way, sacrificing himself to save Zabuza. Zabuza loses anyway, his arms stabbed by Kunai, and he is unable to use his weapons or jutsus. Then Gatou appears with an army of his henchmen, and he kicks Haku's lifeless body, as revenge for when Haku broke his arm. Zabuza does not care, because he says he only used Haku as a tool, just as Gatou used him. But Naruto tells Zabuza how much Haku cared about him and how Haku's only dream was to make Zabuza's dreams come true. Zabuza then finally realized that he really did care about Haku. Zabuza asks for Naruto's kunai, and with just one kunai carried in his mouth, Zabuza attack the henchmen and kills Gatou. He then collapses to the ground. The villagers, as well as Kakashi and his team, are able to chase the remaining henchmen out of their country. They later find out that Haku had done the same thing to Sasuke as he did to Zabuza with the senbon, and so Sasuke wasn't really dead. Afterwards, Zabuza asks Kakashi to carry him to where Haku was. As he is carried, it begins to snow. Zabuza looks at Haku and wishes that they could go to heaven together. A snowflake falls upon Haku's cheek and melts, looking like Haku is crying. Zabuza then dies, and Kakashi and the others bury them next to each other. Such is the sad fate of Haku, the boy as pure as the snow.
