I'm 21, and my name is Bella. Right now I live in Ninole on the Big Island of Hawaii, but soon I'll be moving back to Florida. Its a big move, and I only got to live here in paradise for a year, but I'm kind of glad to be close to a city again. Here is my OFFICIAL Abortion Debate: (It seems to be brought up alot)
I'm 100% for legalized abortion. Every single pregnancy on the planet happens under different circumstances. Yes, there are the basics; planned, unplanned, raped, over-age boyfriend, dissaproving parents, etc. Truth be told, however, no one can set standards on exactly which situation is better for an abortion than another.
Let's say they legalize it, but only if you have physical proof of being raped. What about the 13 year old with the 17 year old boyfriend? How are you going to tell her that though her body is much too small, and the complications will effect the rest of her life and maybe even cost it, that she has to give birth anyway.
What if its legal for rape, and only if it will kill the mother. What about the down-syndrom woman who lives in a group home and gets pregnant? She can't care for the child, her family is unwilling, and she would only be adding to a nation of disabled children with bad, or no homes.
So lets ad the disabled to the list. Now you can only get an abortion if you were raped, will die, or are disabled in some detrimental way. What about the mentally unstable mother. Maybe she would have gotten one if she could, but couldn't go through with an adoption. Probably the same woman who drowns her children in the bath tub.
So, I beleive my point is made. I think it should be legal over 18 to anyone. I think under 18 should REQUIRE parental consent in every state, unless a judge can waive that requirement for special situations (I've seen it done). I also, HATE HATE HATE that some places try to force an ultrasound on the women getting abortions. Most people have no frikin clue how hard it is to make a choice like that, why would you want to cause this person even more emotional enguish for something they may feel they need to do. I mean seriously. You wanna pity someone, pity the woman who's life is so messed up that she can't even keep her own child.
