About

Hey. My name is Shelby.

Here are a few things you should know about me-
I'm an IB student who lives for her friends and watching the stars at night. I completely adore Nick Rhodes and, of course, Duran Duran. My favourite actor is Robert Downey, Jr., and my favourite show is The Colbert Report. I have an affinity for British sitcoms (Are You Being Served?, Keeping Up Appearances, etc.) and lemon gelato. Tetris occupies most of my free time. If you know me, I'm sure you can figure out the rest. (:

Oh god, it's the Bucket woman.

Yes, I think it was a good enough excuse.

Oh yes, I remember the book signing, half of my co-workers booked that day off to go and see him, so I had to work, but yes, if I could get any books of mine signed, I'd be in heaven biggrin And though it might be 1000+ pages, it is Stephen King, so it's not all so bad, now is it?

Anyhow, I'm off to bed (while at least attempting to sleep, while listen to Duran Duran, Wham, Tears for Fears, and some Depeche Mode... it's 80's night tonight on my iPod razz ) Hope you have a good night, and I'll catch you later!

I would imagine IB does that. I know my Honours program has me reading some pretty... "interesting" things to say the least razz

And yes, Québec was of my choosing, as I went back to visit my hometown, Montréal, at first, and then went to Chicoutimi. Plus, I really needed the French practice, not only so that I could get my BA in a year and a half from now, but also because 2 years out of French Immersion (sans speaking the language) = a lot forgotten! But completely awesome experience, plus I missed the heat wave out here in July razz

Chuck Palahniuk, I swear, I want to read his stuff so bad, every time I shelf him, I'm tempted to just buy one of his books, but I can't, as I already have about 50+ books that need to be read already. 30% discount at Chapters does not help me much razz

Ah. If I'm not mistaken, I had to read it for my first year history course in college, but its one of the main reasons I'll be taking History of the Soviet Union next year at school.

And I can completely understand the wait for Harry Potter, I would have done the same myself, had I not been in a remote French-only community of Québec at the time... took away from the enjoyment, to say the least.

But no, Harry Potter is my second favourite series of books, while Adrian Mole takes the cake for first!

I could not agree with you more, unfortunately not all people are of that mindset. As far as One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, it was a really enjoyable book for me (but do keep in mind, you're talking to a History student, so I'm biased), but if anything remotely interests you about the Soviet Union, this is most certainly a good start, as it really addresses the issues of these labour camps and the hardships these people faced, so all in all, pretty good book, if not the best, from all of my historical readings. I'm curious, which class do you have to read this for?

And yes, I'm planning to attend it first day as well. I'll freeze my butt off outside of Silvercity, but it will be worth it!

I provoke them ALL the time, I can't help myself. But the worst comment I have ever heard was when some said that Twilight was the greatest piece of literary work they had ever read, and with the utmost seriousness too, they were not kidding! I almost just got up and left work after that one razz

Oh, and btw, Alan Rickman is absolutely amazing! He could honestly narrate my life, I wouldn't mind razz Oh! And are you going to see Sherlock Holmes later this month? I'm quite excited to see what Robert Downey Jr. has done with the character.

Well, I think unfortunately for me, I grew up in a biased environment with only Anne Rice being the Queen of vampire novels, so I tend to side with her. The reason I ask though is because I work in a bookstore, and SO MANY of the people who read Twilight have NEVER heard of Anne Rice, and it pains me when I hear it sad

Funny thing though, I did not know of Twilight before working at that bookstore and I asked my boss during the launch of Breaking Dawn, "So why is everyone so crazy for this book?" Lets just say I got plenty of evil glares that day biggrin

It's funny, my mother introduced me to both too, and of course, completely thankful to her as well, though especially so for showing me Doctor Who and Torchwood (bit of a Brit Sci-Fi guy here razz )

Okay, so I must ask, just having seen Interview with a Vampire in your favourite books, what's your take on the Twilight series?

Oh yeah, I've been watching Colbert Report since I was in high school! And Duran Duran, well that's a must since I'm an 80's kid... plus my mom TOTALLY has a crush on all of them razz But Keeping up appearances, eh? I thought I was one of the few who actually watched and appreciated that show. I guess not!
