About

Name's Zakk.

I'm 20, going to be 21 in December. Plan to celebrate with a bottle of Jagermeister!

I'm from Maine, and as unfortunate as it is, I don't know that many other folks who live up this far. Shame, but I'm a proud New Englander, and will be until the day I die.

I'm primarily a music fan, but I do have my other interests. With regards to music, I like mainly Progressive Rock. I used to listen to lots of Progressive Metal, but my tastes have since shifted to almost strictly Progressive Rock (and the 19 subgenres that make it up), with a few Progressive Metal bands to which I hold a measure of sentimentality that filter through. Biggest reason I stopped with Prog Metal is that a lot of the bands in the genre sound exactly alike, and the creative stagnation has plagued at least half the genre for at least a decade, with the other half (that just does whatever it wants) generally not wanting anything to do with the carbon copy half.

Other than that I'd say I'm quite big into Blues and Blues-Rock, and I'm trying to get into Jazz but I've found it harder than I bargained for. I'll get there, just give me some time. I like pretty much anything with a groove, so I'll find something that strikes a chord (no pun intended).

I've gotten fed up with the forums as of late, so I don't post them nearly as much as I used to. I have multiple other places to post, so I just do all my posting there.

I used to be big into stereo equipment, but for a while now I've determined that my dated system is a bit too limited. As such I've taken down the stereo pictures I used to have, but I'll probably put something back up when I get a better system assembled. First step is a car, though.

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that I'm working now. I work for a company called Affiliated Computer Services (ACS for short), and they specialize in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), which is essentially where companies make contracts with ACS, set up shop and hire on employees to take calls for those companies. Yeah, it's a call center. It's improved my communication abilities, but only by a little.

As far as I'm concerned, the way I am now is the way I could see myself being for the rest of my life. I don't really think much about changing my personality/attitude/outlook on life at any point in time, and since I like being a cynical realist I'll probably stay that way until it drives everybody around me or myself up the wall, whichever comes first. icon_razz.gif

I don't mind thinking about stuff, but being lazy in nature I prefer not to think more than I have to. 'Work smarter, not harder' is my slogan, so I try to find loopholes and easy ways out of various situations. My mind is sharp enough, I don't need to work it any harder than absolutely necessary to get myself through life.

Yeah, I'm a little overconfident. Sue me. icon_talk2hand.gif

Anime

I'm a fairly big anime fan, and I've watched quite a few series since I started back up (thanks to Elfen Lied), but I'm always watching something new. I'm fairly open-minded when it comes to anime (unless it's a niche anime, namely sports) so I try to watch various things. A more detailed record of the stuff I've watched since I started can be found found here, on my MAL profile. If you have a MAL profile, feel free to send a friend request. icon_wink.gif

Food

I'm a big food fanatic. I really don't like fruits all that much, least favourites being oranges and bananas, but I do love a wide array of vegetables.

I'm not overly conscious of what I put in my body ('as long as it tastes good' is pretty much my mindest), but lately I've been trying to find healthier alternatives to the things I've been eating. I usually go with baked goods over fried, but if something's fried I have it done with olive oil. If I have chicken at, say, a fast food establishment, I go with grilled. Generally, I prefer a home cooked meal over a meal at a restaurant or fast food place, but eating out is a good social tool and it's great to try different peoples' cooking.

Religion

I have a religious background, and I've got my convictions that I won't yield for anybody, but I'm not a zealot like some people. Unfortunately, there are those that can't seem to differentiate between narrow-minded zealots and people who just believe in things and hold steadfast those beliefs, therefore they treat everybody the same way and in turn prove their ignorance in their need to generalize.

That being said, I'm not particularly fond of militant Satanists, Atheists, or even Agnostics who insist that they're right, but complain about getting beliefs pushed on them when the person they're mocking gets on the defensive. Another group of people who annoy me is those who have a preconceived notion of a person simply based on their religion of choice. Just because the word 'Christian' starts to fly doesn't necessarily mean they're narrow-minded, gay-bashing, brainwashed cultist tools who use the Bible as ammunition to launch attacks on other people, then use the same words as a shield when those people get on the defensive. The sooner people get that through their heads, the better.

Avi Art

Onto the avi art. You'll notice that the majority of these were done by the same person; it would seem she at one point had a thing for drawing my art, but I don't get random freebies in my PM inbox any more. icon_sad.gif

Corrupter of Words:

Her artwork is always so clean, so sharp, and so detailed. Of course, this piece is no exception. I'm thinking that I may need a new piece of art at some point in time...

Well listen to enough songs to conclude that you prefer it to BG since you don't like them in the first place?

I just need a conclusive vote. It's a tie, but no one knows it. Everyone thought that BG won, but I missed a vote. D:

Yo dizzle, have you voted in metal tourney round 1.4 yet? It needs votes and if you haven't, you better. Except don't vote for BG because they're gay 'n' stuff.

Babylon's burning in my mind
Look sideways for the very first time
Struck by lightning for my crime
Acting strange, and I don't know why.
