I am an artist who works here at Gaia.
I am the one currently in charge of evolving items, one of which I am usually creating as well : )
I also work on various other items.
Basic info: * EIs are items that change over time.
* When they get new poses the old ones dissappear.
* You get all of the poses back when the item finishes evolving.
* Evolving items are unpredictable -- you never know what they will become.
Gens: * Evolving items have different generations (gens.)
* Each gen is one evolution behind the one before it.
* All generations end up with the same poses.
Schedule * Evolving items change on their own, you don't have to do anything.
* You don't know when/how often they will change -- they can do so sooner or later than you expect.
* Some even have "mini evolutions" or add poses randomly without changing entirely.
Artists * Most EIs are done by one artist, but some are worked on by more than one.
* Sometimes the artist may change in the middle of the item.
* Some artists choose to allow the community to know it when they are working on an EI.
* If you find glitches with a pose, contact the artist directly if you know who they are.

I'm still a rookie quester myself, but this is some good advice given to me by many people. Also look in forums on guides to make $$$$
