I am a writer I am currently trying to finish my book Abaddon. Once I'm satisfied with it I'll get it edited and hopefully published. & yes you're exactly right, most writers start off great novels by pleasing theirselves not their audiences. In fact her book wasn't published until she submitted it 10 times. So yeah focus on what you like and what you want above anything.
