I took a deep breath and looked out at the world around me. The setting sun cast a vibrant orange glow that reached above the horizon, lighting up the sky as if lit by flames. The remaining sun, like a magnificent fireball in the distance was partially obscured by the gently floating clouds, which were melting with the various shades of pinks, reds and purples. It seemed as if it was looking at me with its fierce glare, as if to remind me how cruel and unforgiving the world was while still remaining an infinitely beautiful masterpiece. The sun that had glowed high above the heads of everyone hours before, seemed to whisper "Farewell" to its world as it sunk slowly lower in a lazy manner; almost as if it wished it could stay forever. And sometimes I wished it could too, only the light was meant for the innocent. The ones who had never known of tragedy and sorrow. It was meant for those who had never wept for the loss of those most important to them, or felt the pain of being alone due to their own vicious crossroads.

My place had long since been exiled from the light; I belonged to the darkness that housed the humans with hands soaked in other’s blood. The shadows that frightened those belonging to the light came as a sweet melody to my thoughts and ears. The darkness was a place where no one questioned my belonging.

Families stayed together in any way they could, they lived in a home where they knew they were safe, and they knew they were loved. The darkness, and the evil I drown in every moment, formally just in the nightmares, but which had soon grown to my waking hours, was my home and without even a single doubt, I knew my sister was right there with me. The darkness was our home.
