Long ago, the gods chose certain beasts to become sentient, how they did this exactly is lost in time, the gods would not divulge in the details as to how. But over the thousands of years, many different sentient animals had become known. The sentient midget animals were the most commonly known, But there were many others, like the true werewolves, the ones that could think and act on their own, but never transformed into humans. Or the Feline people, that were very private about what they did, there was also the Satyrs, the Centaurs, and many other races.

The Ursine Dominion was a small kingdom ruled a Monarchy of Bears. The Bears there were mostly sentient, except near their borders they were more animal then sentient. The Ursine were very religious, and worshiped a pantheon of gods. Gaia, Meili, Peath, and other gods associated with nature and creation.

Over the centuries that had many wars with the beasts of night, werewolves, the great vampire bats of old, but they always prevailed, they were a powerful race, It is said the kings (called Ba'ar, where the word bear is derived) of the ursine were descent from the gods themselves, for they had great powers. They could transform into more convenient forms when they were in need of them.
