As of today 7/2/2014, I think I will not enter anymore avatar contests outside of the arena. I have tried and I notice a trend. Avatars that are easily put together win. As for the ones that actually put work into their avatar, do not win. I think I will stick to the area of Gaia where most people pay attention to detail and can tell when a person easily put an avatar together and the people that look like they actually put work into their avatar and didn't throw on a couple of things and called it a day.
I know this is seen as me being a sore loser but honestly, if a person isn't gonna choose me, I expected some of the other contestants in these avatar contests that actually put work into the avatar to win. I think I would have been more satisfied in seeing winners that put work into their avatar, but hey that's just me, some of the ones that make easily put together avatars choose other people that did the same thing. That should have been my hint to not enter these contests . If they chose someone else that also put work into their avatar, I could have then said well at least they put work into their avatar and I can see how they won. Omg I am turning into Laganja Estranja xD. So be it. Laganja: YAAAAAAAAS MOMMMA!

Okay aside from that I guess people would call this a sore loser rant. You win some, you lose some, you pick yourself up and you move on xD. Keep going on because you know your avatar was really one of the best. If Gaia would help the arena and work on it like they said they were gonna do and actually put up ads about the arena around gaia so that it will attract more people, maybe people will see the REAL DEAL avatars and start seeing the people that actually worked their fingers into making avatars. Seriously, people that want to hold an avatar contest should start paying attention to the arena regs of the arena.
These people do not play around when it comes to avatar making. You will see the best avatars, great arena regs have to offer. I think I will round up my avatars that have lost contests and the ones that I have changed over to while competing in a contest that was for something else to try to win an item. When RED get's an item, oh baby you won't be sorry when I work magic with it.
Audience: HEY RED CALM YO *SS DOWN! They won fair and square and the person that chose them saw something more special in theirs than yours and the others. So suck it up and move on. Theirs were more happy in the face and the couple of items work well together. Yours kinda look mad in the face and plus you used all WHITE.
(This is the avatar that I entered with in an admins contest, but I altered it a little, but anyway back to the roast of lR lE lD).
Audience: You seriously think this is creative? YEAH all white very creative RED! >_> Bish please get out of here.
It's a nice avatar and you put work into it and people told you it was awesome but it just wasn't exciting and colorful. So hun pick up your sorry self with your big teardrop sore loser *SS and exit stage right.
RED: And on that note, the end. Congrats to all the winners of these contests I have been in. Sorry for ranting, but I like to use my about panel as my little rant corner to get things off my chest. Thank you Fantima, for giving me a gift when you heard about the unfairness of the contest.
UPDATE: I was pulled into another outside arena contest. lol :facepalm I entered and never heard about the winnings ever. Instead I saw yet again easily put together avatars win another contest from the guild. It's the same old stuff and I really hated being dragged into the guild contest and never hearing about anyone winning. I even came up with a title and description for my avatar.
Red's Sci-fi and Gaia Contest Rant
Yes, gurl it has happened again.....
Get ready, Red the Bianca del Rio of Gaia is BACK! I said back then that I wouldn't enter anymore contests
and then I still went on ahead and entered several. Well the second Gaia contest that I was in, was held by staff members but mainly this new staff member called Rance something... I forgot their name. Well this contests' theme was warrior themed I think. So I made a warrior and even came up with a good description since the post said they would like to see something written up about the character. So here I was getting all excited and sh*t.
Then I saw it... I saw the winners that were posted. GOOD GRACIOUS THE ATROCIOUSNESS @___@. I couldn't believe my eyes at what I saw. THE VERY SAME OLD SH*T I've seen in other contests except there were a few that had some really good avatars, but they did not win in the correct spots. The worse got top places and the best got lower ranks.
What kind of topsy turvy sh*t is this? Even others were shocked at this bullsh*ttery. So you know me, I ranted in the thread about this bs. The next contest they had I didn't enter it. I think I remember them adding more good avi's to the winner list though, maybe.
I guess they kinda learned from the backlash they received.
But then they went back to the same. I think Gaia's staff just really do not know the difference between good avatars and some crap that was just thrown together in minutes. They have no arena critiquing etiquette at all. If arena regulars was put in charge all of those easily put together avatars would be cast to the side, WAY to the side and the best of the best would have won THAT CONTEST!
Now that is fair. o_O Well it is. I mean really, do you want easy to win or hardworkers to win? If you choose easy, I question your level of what's hot on the scene and whose fire was put out before they even set foot on the red carpet to be interviewed and showered with lots of camera time. But oooooooooh let me get down to this sci-fi contest I entered, gurl... err... or boy xD?!
Depends on whoever gave a phuq to read my rant corner. But anyway, I wanted to enter this person's contest. I thought this person was looking for the best of the best. .___. Now you know me, I'm very bizarre, right? >__> You better ph*qqin' say it. I'm flamboyant and very stylish.
You all know I do not stick to one style and I can do anything you throw at me but guuurl (I like to add gurl because it adds drama to this, plus it's funny LOL)! I had no idea what I was stepping into. I like this person's art even though I do not like how my art was done since my Red character's apron was drawn to look like a skirt over my pants but it's still good art. I love this person's art still. But guuuurl! That contest though. o_O
Girl this ain't even shade,
I didn't know it was an avant-garde, couture, sci-fi contest until I was told later on. If that's the case then why not put that in the requirement section. And let me just say this: have you ever wanted to tell a person what you really think, but you know if you really lay all your cards on the table that that will start an argument and will end with them either deleting you or you deleting them? Because LOTS of times I wanted to tell people the real deal so that they can understand where I'm coming from, but I know if I delve even further into the conversation that toes will get stepped on. Sometimes I do tell people how I really feel though but that's only if the person is being really rude.
Well in this case this person is kinda being rude a little, but in other situations people have been very mean to me in the way they approached me. But back on THEE SI-TU-ATION. So I sent this person a link to avant-garde fashion so I could figure out what they want people to make for this contest. So this person said that that is what they are looking for. So I was like awww shucks now!
This means I can REALLY CUT LOOSE! I can...I can, like... BE REALLY WILD WITH STYLE NOW! So I put together something since my other look was turned down. Ok now let me reverse it. My first look for this contest was an alien warrior dressed in decora futuristic style.
It was turned down because it didn't look avant-garde couture and it had a background, and in their eyes the background didn't go with the avatar I think. -__- Let's just be real for a sec, haute couture fashion is about the weird, the funky, the creme de la creme, and basically whatever the heck the designer wants to dream up. But it's fashion that you just wouldn't see on normal everyday people. So yeah, the fashion, if it's really haute couture, it's gonna be something mind blowing or at least something that isn't easy for everyone to get a hold of in the fashion world. So...
But back on my first avi for the contest.
Before I knew it was an avant-garde couture contest my avi was still that and more. Have you seen real fashion shows? Look at Christian Dior. Not the one with the new designer that sucks imo,
but the one where John Galliano was over. He did some of everything.
Designers will make their models look like anything they want. Heck even Alexander Mcqueen had a fashion show where he had models looking like aliens. So my alien warrior fit right on in, but there was one thing that ticked off this person. It was that the hoverboard was already done.
My avi was on a skateboard but oh well the board thing was done already.
So I went on to try and enter my avant-garde asianesque look. It can go for a fancy alienistic empress.
Person did say that they were looking for something that looked like Katy Perry's looks in her extraterrestrial video. She looked like a beautiful alien queen wondering through space. My favorite look of hers in that video is where she was dressed in a white dress with the oddly, braided, updo hairstyle.
Well my asianesque alienistic empress looked like it fit well with that style. But even that was turned down. So then this person went on to tell me they wanted a sleek style and then they said they wanted a slit dress. Well wtf do you want?
It looks like anything I present will be turned down.
So this is where I start backing out of the contest
because I deemed that as bs in my mind when I saw other people just put on eyes, lips, a wig, leg mod, arm mod, and a few items for the torso and called it a day. That looks like the same old stuff I've seen from other contests and other arena regulars would agree. So then I went on to say my little 2 cents on how that is boring and I'm backing out because I'm being told one thing after the next and it seems like whatever I do will be turned down. So then this person went on to throw a jab at the arena folk. I can see why they threw a little jab but what I was trying to explain to them, that for a contest wouldn't you want to see the best of the best and not stay in a box?
They said sci-fi theme. That means you can do anything. This person just wasn't specific to me. I have avatars that can fit the theme they were talking about but from being told one thing after the next, I just gave up. I wanted the reward and could have put that gold on better things but I decided that it isn't worth the hassle and not worth my time.
I would rather remain poor like I am
and add my avatars to my gallery for real avatar makers and admirers to see rather than waste time on people's contests where they are acting like they know what the best is and have no clue. I was just done with this person after they kinda criticized heavily cluttered avatars. They do not get that heavily cluttered avatars is not the only kind of avatars that people wanna see win in the arenas. You can enter a simple avatar that is layered right and looks like some thought was put into it and it will be seen as worthy to win if it's put together right and not thrown together in a matter of seconds. All I'm asking for, is for people to be FAIR with their critiques and contests.
Do not stay in a box people! I hate that.
I get so sick and tired of every tom, d**k, and harry that decides to be a critiquer in the arena or outside the arena that decides to critique on the stuff they only like and f all the rest of the styles that they do not like. I have seen critiquers that only give good critiques to their pals and people they like and for the rest they will always get low rates. Though I do notice some past critiquers that pop back up to be more fair towards me and others somewhat.
So far, I have only seen one critiquer that was really fair to me. I miss them and wish they would come back to critiquing.
I like fair people that do not stick to one style and grade on whatever style the person chose for their avi. If I ever held an avatar contest, I don't give a d*mn what style the person chose for my theme. I wouldn't have them running around in circles.
I know the person that critiqued my sci-fi looks said they were gonna be a harsh critic but don't be so harsh to the point of being unreasonable. What kind of critiquer is that? Ain't nobody got time for that, I...
That is wishy washiness to tell me one thing and then another and another like you are some tough, real, simon powell critiquer. Even Simon gets some sh*t wrong when he judges singers that sings a song very beautifully and then here comes Simon with his nose stuck up his fanny. This is me being a harsh critique if I wanted to be and let a person know the real deal instead of the cutesy side to me that will refrain from critiquing you due to people only wanting to hear good things about their avatar that really needs tons of work: Let's say I made a theme and I was very specific in the requirements.
Let's say that the theme is an Intergalactic Ball theme and everyone must make an alien that is dressed fancy.
But instead I get one person that is dressed with a leg mod, arm mod, a bra, human skin with no abnormalities, a regular wig, with eyes and no mouth and then they called it a day and presented it to me and want me to critique. Well I would start with the top. Now it's okay to go with a simple wig for my ball. You might wanna add some hair accessories to the wig to give it some pizzaz.
As for the face, just adding eyes ain't gonna cut it.
You need lips as well or some kind of mouth. Might wanna go with a beak or something for your alien, up to you. Now guuurl, as for that torso, a bra and that's it? Why not jazz it up with some embellishments or add some tattoos to the skin to give the alien that abnormal exotic look.
The arm mod and leg mod is fine but a lot can be done with the torso so that it will fit with the mods you chose.... And that is me being a harsh critiquer and telling you the real deal if you ask for it.
In fact, I will probably do an alien themed group entry in the future since I usually make a group entry when something irks me. If I was holding a contest and wanted to be a harsh critiquer like this sci-fi person, I would be VERY specific on what I'm looking for. FIRST, I would write in the requirements that I'm looking for an avant-garde, couture sci-fi themed avatar.
With that being said, that pretty much means come up with an alien that is dressed very fancy and fancy doesn't have to be wear a gown that is decked out with a whole lot of embellishments. A person can come up with an avi where they have a humanistic alien dressed like she is going out for a night of hooking or something but done in a way where thought was put into it and not just a tight skirt with a top, eyes, no makeup, and some strip boots. Person could doll up their hookerish alien with some fancy makeup, skin layered with other things that go on the skin, a belly ring maybe etc...
I wouldn't just lead a person on and tell them what to do like the person told me. I mean let people be versatile but make sure they stick to the theme's requirements.
Avant-garde is going for the weirdness and bizarreness and heck making an alien with even a mini skirt on and thigh-high boots is avant-garde if you paint yourself up in real life and beat that face with makeup right and add some things to yourself to make you look outer-space fantastic. Telling a person to be avant-garde couture and then later on telling them to be sleek and then tell them to add a dress with a split is not the way to do things.
That will only leave people just quitting the competition because it is bs at the end of the day. I thought this person was righteous but they are obviously not.
They let the first person in their competition put on a wild wig, leg mod, arm mod, one or 2 items for the torso, a hoverboard, 1 background with nothing to accentuate it and eyes with no lips and they think that is great? Omfg, I should have known right then to not step foot in their thread and I think I will never step foot in their contests ever again and just let them think that stuff is the bees knees of fashion. If this person reads what I said, know that that was not right to change up on me like that. I am showing you on how to be a better critiquer and if you don't like it then feel free to delete me because I am speaking the truth.
Call me butthurt, call me whatever but at the end of the day telling me they want avant-garde when it is not in their requirement post, then telling me they want sleek, don't be heavily cluttered it hides the hair, then telling me to add a dress with a split is just being wishy washy. I was like...
If I had a contest I wouldn't do that to you. I would tell you what I want from you in my list of requirements and be specific and not surprise people when they make an avi. I wasted my time trying to come up with avatars for that contest only to be told one thing after the other. I hope this will be my last time that I fall for this.
I am so gonna make a group entry on this idea because I can and nothing you can do about it. Intergalactic Ball, here we come! I freakin' deserve it and who cares if it seems like I'm copying, I had this idea long before they came up with an alien theme anyway and now I wanna put it into action just BE-CAUSE of this shenanigans. I'll show you what creme de la creme really is! So...
