A Headcases' Journal
Hi, bye.
Bucs (Season 2)
Preseason Games
----------------------
Yeah, they don't matter, but I'm covering them anyway. xp

Bucs vs. Jets(W, 1-0) 16-3
(The Buccaneers win 16-3 for a successful Preseason opener at home against the Jets. I was very impressed with Bruce Gradkowski today, who passed for 2 TD's and over 100 YD's. Impressive performance by him and Earnest Grahme, who played most of the game. He had some great runs as well. The D was great of course, the only blemish being the short FG right before the half, but that's fine. The play that really set the tone was when Kalvin Pearson sacked Pennington in the Red Zone and caused a fumble that Barret Ruud scooped up and returned to the 20. Yeah, it's Preseason, but still a great team performance by the Bucs. Those two long drives really impressed me for sure. I have to give some credit to Chad Pennington and Kellon Clemens as well, they passed quite well against a very good Bucs D, can't say that I'm not impressed by their performances. The Bucs showed some true class by not running up the score there at the end as well, they had a big chance to score more points in the last 1 minute or so, but just kneeled. Very classy move.)
Bucs vs. Dolphins(L, 1-1) 13-10
(The Bucs lost to my 2nd favorite team, but it was a well played game by both sides for sure. Once again, Gradkowski showed some true mettle, passing for almost 200 YD's and another TD, but he threw a bad pass that got picked as the Bucs were driving to perhaps win the game. Thankfully, this is just Preseason, so it's only tuneup and all. Simms played three series as well, completing two passes, and Rattay got to play some more as well. Not as good rushing in this game as the last, but the passing was improved so it evens out. The most impressive play was when Sheppard beat Jared Allen deep for a long 48 YD TD catch, very well done. The D played well again, getting a couple sacks and focing some fumbles. They really pressured, and it showed well. All in all, the Bucs are really progessing, and I'm very excited to see the other two tuneups before the regular season starts!)
Bucs @ Jaguars(L, 1-2) 29-18
(Well, first game I got to watch live of the Bucs this season, and certainly not the last. I really enjoyed the 1st half performance by the Bucs, the D forced a quick turnover and the O capitalized on that drive scoring a TD. The key play of that drive was the 3rd and 12 pass to Clayton for around 16, great play for sure. Also chorkled when Bidwell threw a LASER to White for the 2 point conversion, it was interecpted, but White wrestled the ball away. Funnnny. The 1st string Defense was very good, and the Jags couldn't score at all until we put in our 2nd strign D and they still had their 1st stringers in. It looked like they actually wanted to win a Preseason game or something, I guess. The passing game was good, but the Running game wasn't very good until Graham got in. Gradkowski struggled for the first time this Preseason, throwing a bad pick near the end of the game, but he'll only learn from that. Great game, all in all, good game by the Bucs, well played.)
Bucs @ Texans(L, 1-3) 16-13
(Preseason over! Yes, we end it with a loss, but in the end it's more for developing players then winning. Bruce Gradkowski looked great passing for a solid 90 and rushing for 47 more. He threw a TD to another rook, Tim Massaquoi. The Line was solid, and Zemitis also performed well, getting 6 tackles. The D played well too, but it wasn't enough to beat the Texans at all. They had a couple of long drives, and we couldn't stop them when we needed too. Ah well, it'll just build the experience of these players and by now they're hopefully ready for the home opener against the Ravens. Real thing starts next!)

Preseason is over, and the Bucs players showed some good play, that will hopefully translate to the regular season quite nicely. Productive Preseason, Bucs, congrats! Have fun in that new headquarters as well, you guys deserve it!

Regular Season Games
----------------------------

Bucs vs. Ravens (L, 0-1) 27-0
(Well, that wasn't a very well-played game by the Bucs at all. Getting shutout is never fun, but sometimes you have to deal with it. Jamal Lewis ran over our D, and McNair played great as well. Simms threw 3 INT's, never a good sign. Galloway never even caught a pass, and Caddy only got 22 YDs. Bad showing overall by the Bucs, but with these kind of games you just have to move on and burn the tape. They'll do better next week I'm sure.)
Bucs @ Falcons (L, 0-2) 14-3
(We didn't stop Vick all too well, and Caddy couldn't get started very well either. Simms threw 3 INT's, a couple in Falcons territory which killed some great drives. A couple bad mistakes like that prevented the game from getting close at all. I was suprised the Bucs didn't give up more points, but that could be attributed to Koenen, the Falcons kicker, missing 4 FG's in all. Sadly, we couldn't capitalize on any of those misses, but at least we scored a point this week. On to the next week, Gruden needs to rally this team, because it's got talent, the guys just aren't using at all these first few weeks.)
Bucs vs. Panthers (L, 0-3) 26-24
(What can said about this one. It came down to the very end, very tough hard-hitting game by both teams. I was extremely impressed with the Bucs huge comeback, but it fell just short because of Kasay's leg. A tough loss to take, but the Bucs should be proud of their drive to win in this game, and should just build on that this season. First big offensive explosion of the season for them, and they can only build on this fact. Some stupid mistakes by both side, and they both wish they could take some plays away. The Bucs'll just have to bring it for the rest of the season to even have a chance at all, I expect them to bring it every week from here on out.)
BYE (Next week)
(Hope we don't lose this one too. xp )
Bucs @ Saints (L, 0-4) 24-21
(Another close game, that just tears your heart out. But it's not that bad, the Bucs were leading late but poor kick coverage screwed them over when Bush returned one for a TD. Bruce Gradkowski's first career regular season game was absolutely phenomenal. He looked poised in the pocket, and even ran a little bit. Found his recievers well, and didn't make many mistakes at all. The running game finally got on track running for over 100 YD's for the 1st time this season, great job by the Line as well. Couple of penalties messed us up, but it was a very close game and could've gone either way. Sadly, it didn't go our way.)
Bucs vs. Bengals (W, 1-4) 14-13
(A great win for Tampa, and they beat a tough team playing their style of football. Caddy ran the ball exceptionally well, running up and over their Run D, and Gradkowski had another awesome game throwing for almost 200 YDs and 2 TDs. Even if he threw an INT, he didn't make many mistakes beside that. The Bucs Run D was keyed, and stopped Rudi great allowing only 52 YDs to him. Carson Palmer had his normal type of game, over 200 YDs passing, but they contained their O enough for the W. Exciting finish as well, trailing by 7 with 35 seconds left facing a 4th and 3 the Bucs threw 8 YDs for a TD to Clayton, and a late Graham FG headed wide right. Great win for the Bucs and hopefully they key on this victory, and build on it to get back in the South race.)
Bucs vs. Eagles (W, 2-4) 23-21
(One of the biggest kicks in the history of the NFL had a big say in this game. The Bucs built an early 17-0 lead on two INTs for TDs by Ronde Barber, and a FG from Matt Bryant. The Eagles drove the field right before the half, but failed to get any points due to poor clock management and red-zone playcalling. The Bucs kicked another FG, but the Eagles made a furious comeback and took a 21-20 lead with 33 seconds left. But the Eagles ended up leaving a little too much time on the clock. Gradkowski drove the Bucs to the Eagles side of the field, but a 62 yard FG sounded so doubtful.....except for on this crazy day. The 3rd longest Field Goal in NFL history won the game on this day, and Matt Bryant will forever be known as a hero on this Sunday. What a great, emotional win for Tampa and they now have a 2 game winning streak, gotta get back to .500 first though.)
Bucs @ Giants (L, 2-5) 17-3
(Bad game overall, but I saw some bright spots. Grad played another great game, he hit some recievers perfectly but sometimes they just dropped the ball. That alone could have changed the complexion of this game completely. The Bucs D played pretty good all day long, and really stopped Tiki quite well. Unfortunately, the Caddy never really got going and the Bucs were forced to throw a little to much as a side-effect. Good points from this game, but more bad then good overall.)
Bucs vs. Saints (L, 2-6) 31-14
(Not a very good game for the 2nd week in a row and that resulted in a pretty bad loss. The Bucs did charge back from a 17-0 deficit early in the game to get within 17-14. This was after two good TD catches by Joey Galloway from Gradkowski. But in the 3rd Quarter things just got out of hand when the Bucs D crumbled and allowed the 'Aints to score 2 TDs. Again, not a good game, but their are some bright spots, we're a work in progress so I hope the Bucs can come back from this early bad season start to make things a little better. Good luck Bucs, from your biggest fan!)
Bucs @ Panthers (L, 2-7) 24-10
(Another close loss for the Bucs of '06. They lead 7-0 at half, but couldn't protect the lead come the 3rd quarter which was basically the Panthers quarter easily. A good close game until the end though, and I do believe untimely turnovers were our downfall. Now, obviously turnovers are always bad, but we commited far too many to win against a good team like Carolina. Playoffs look bleak, but I'm not giving up on this Tampa team, so I don't believe they will either. Even if the Postseason is out of the season we should still play to win. Anyway, we'll get 'em next week. Go Bucs!)
Bucs vs. Redskins (W, 3-7) 20-17
(Great win, which the Bucs really needed. Over my dad's favorite team to boot, so some bragging rights for the year in Football. Anyway, it was a low-scoring version of last season's game, with it being clsoe throughout. Un-exciting first half, with both teams excahnging field goals. 'Skins came out in the 2nd half and got a quick TD, soon afterwards the Bucs got a TD to match them, coming off a wacky deflection. Tampa would score next with a long touchdown pass from Grad to Galloway. A late FG by the Bucs would prove key when Washington drove for a last minute score. Onside kick failed though, and the Bucs preserved a good win for the Bucs.)
Bucs @ Cowboys (L, 3-eight) 38-10
(Probably the ugliest game of the season on one of the biggest stages. Well, the Bucs started out well, heading to a 7-0 lead one their opening possesion going 90 YDs on it. Our Defense just let it get really out of hand later on, and the Offense didn't help much either. Bright spots of course, with Caddy running pretty well and Galloway making some good catches as well. The Bucs played tough their first time playing on Thanksgiving, and Dallas just killed them. We'll just have to go back to the drawing board I guess and turn around after a short week. Gotta get ready for the champs.)
Bucs @ Steelers (L, 3-9) 20-3
(What can you say. Another horrible Offensive game, but you can't really blame this young team for doing that all too much. Yes, Bruce was intercepted the most times this season with 3, but he's a rookie, and he's done better than this in most other games. Good Defensive game I guess, a couple of turnovers but we couldn't get off the field on 3rd down at all. Just a badly executed game overall by the Bucs, and their season is pretty much shot now. But it's not over yet, so the Bucs can still focus on getting a divisional win next week and getting packages and players geared up for next season. Just gotta hope for the best. Go Bucs!)
Bucs vs. Falcons (L, 3-10) 17-6
(The first half was great, Bucs Defense of old holding a shut-out through the Half. Offense wasn't that good, but adequate enough to produce six points. Yet, it didn't hold all because of a controversial play. Grad fumbled and it looked like Anthony Davis recovered, but then it was stripped out again and returned for a TD, took a while to review and the refs went the Falcons way. Not that bad, but Tampa and its fans didn't really think so. From there it was just the Falcons holding our Offense in check. Tim Rattay came in near the end and directed a very good drive through the last couple minutes, alas, they couldn't punch it in from the 2 in the closing seconds and that was that. Still a well-played game, just have to stop blowing leads. C'mon Bucs, let's still keep fighting.)
Bucs @ Bears (L, 3-11) 34-31
(Wow! What an exciting game was that! One of the best games of the season in the NFL so far this season, just great. I thought the Bucs could do some things today and they were doing bad at first, especially going into Half. 21-3 deficit then. But a great comeback by the Bucs through capitalizing on every drive and inserting Tim Rattay into the lineup. He threw 3 TDs in relief of Gradkowski and just had a great game. It went into Overtime and the Bucs won the toss but turned it over in their own territory, but Gould missed the FG that would've won it and the Bucs had another couple of chances but couldn't move the ball very well at all. Bears got the ball back and drove for the winning field goal. Some many think I'd be pissed with this result, but I really enjoyed this huge comeback by the Bucs that showed a lot of heart to go out there and not mail it in at all. Great try Bucs, we'll get 'em next time!)
Bucs @ Browns (W, 4-11) 22-7
(Probably our most complete game of the season, and a good way to get our first, and last possible, road win of the season. Solid game by both Defense and Offense. Rattay was able to move the ball pretty well and Pittman/Alstott stepped up with Caddy being out with a nagging foot injury. 1st ever win by the Bucs in Cleveland came dominately, gathering 4 interceptions from Anderson and stopping him the best a defense has stopped him after taking over for an injured Frye. Brooks had a defensive INT return and the only real blemish was Bryant missing an XP, but that was okay today. Just a solid, complete game by the Bucs. Good job, let's end our season with a win next week!)
Bucs vs. Seahawks (L, 4-12) 24-7
(Disappointing ending to a somewhat disappointing season. What can you say, the 'Hakws played their game, they got Shaun going early and he ran quite well. Our Defense actually did pretty good at times, got some good stops at first, but were just worn down for sure. A good try at the end by the Bucs, but they were stopped on 4th down, which was pretty tough. Good game by Rattay really. And the Bucs Offense did good without Caddy for a 2nd straight week. Another bad TD allowed before half, which pretty much killed us there and let all the air got out of the missile. Bad season, but I can understand why. Some key injuries, having to start a rookie at QB much of the season, and just the Offense's ability to not get going at all much of the time. Not to mention the inconsistent defense at times, and the incapibility to get off the field on long 3rd downs at times. We'll reclaim the South crown next season though, Bucs! So keep it up, good luck in drafting and free agency, guys! Good start signing Simms to a two year deal.)
