I have a species I made up that I affectionately refer to as 'glowbugs'. They live on the moon of a gas giant. The area gets no sunshine for most of the year so a lot of the things have learned to glow to attract prey or things to pollinate the plants which feeds off a chemical found in the atmosphere instead of sunlight. No glowbug has the same pattern of glowing stripes as any other which helps them to identify each other in the darkness. Mine has stripes up to her knees and elbows, one on each cheek, and one running down her spine. Because of the lack of light they have developed slightly bigger than normal human's eyes and amazing vision. They, however, are sensitive to the light so when they are exposed they usually have to wear a special visor to cover them to prevent damage. They are not actually called glowbugs, their species name is Grokalon but they have been nicknamed that throughout the galaxy.
