The Red Book
It took all morning but eventually his centaur came back and Baye found that he could barely breathe with how excited he was. There he was, right up above him! He was already so close but Baye couldn't help it. This wasn't close enough. Baye inched his way up closer to both the surface of the water and the centaur just beyond it. This was a risky move and he knew it but he'd been waiting for what felt like forever for this. In actuality, it was more like five hours but for someone who could barely sit still for five minutes it had been a sign of real dedication.

He'd just gotten to the point where he could see the color of Nekado's eyes with the blue-green ones of his own when he heard something that had him freezing in place. Nekado had seen him, well sort of seen him, it would seem but it was enough to horrify him.

What now? He was stuck. If he moved up then he'd be seen, in fact, if he moved at all then he'd be seen. If he didn't move then the centaur could go off what he could see already and reach into the water. It would only take six inches to reach the top of his head and to grab his shoulder length blonde hair. Baye couldn't believe his own stupidity. He'd just ruined everything.

Baye cringed, hugging himself like he often did when he was upset. This was the best thing he'd had in years and he'd just ruined it. Baye couldn't tell if he wanted to cry or get violent so he just floated there, glaring at the rocks that coated the pool he lived in. They did a good job at keeping the water clean but a terrible one at offering up hiding places.

Out of sheer frustration, he threw a pearl up hard enough that it would hit Nekado lightly on the face and bounce back off to land near his foot on the ground near the water. Baye, however, hadn't even gotten to see any of it because he'd used that opportunity to go racing off behind the flowing water that his waterfall provided. It was only there that he felt safe enough to look over at Nekado again to see how he was taking it all in. Would he leave now? Baye wasn't sure if he did or didn't want that. At least he'd be safer if Nekado just up and left right now...
