I felt like I've been hit by a truck It was a mystery why there would be so many bugs related to zOMG, from trouble getting the orb count, to not being able to upgrade or salvage rings properly. As I made changes back and forth trying to make things work, I finally realized what was going on... The zOMG server code I was working with was a really old version before we introduced dark orbs and Lv 12 rings. I've heard that we had a hard drive failure once, and some of our code base was affected, but I never expected that it would affect the zOMG server code. gonk At this point, we might have lost about a year's worth of development code from zOMG... I feel sick to my stomach. Gonna work with the operations engineer to see if there's any trace of our newer code base, but I really don't know what to expect... There might be a chance that we could only bring back a version that is before we introduce Lv12 rings and the later areas. I don't want to think about the alternative. Just gonna see what happens tomorrow.

Gonna echo the "ouch". Somehow I knew there was... something. Well, looks like you found something major. If all else, someone might have to rebuild part of the code of the game or update the old code to match the newer better or some such thing.
I did say "there is no hurry. It is isn't ready, it isn't ready".

As a dev, I'm aware a hard drive failure is EXTREMELY bad thing! I wish your servers RAID system had it backed up somewhere (please you guys do)

DMS was up from 2011 to 2014 when zOMG was closed down. So if you lost the DMS data then you've lost over 3 years of data. Hopefully if you've only lost one year you should find DMS easily enough. I wish you good Luck Lanzer and hope for the best.

it does not matter for lvl 12 rings it is only important that you fix it even if we all need to start from begining ... thank you for your effort

That's bad news but I'm sure everyone would be happy with just getting zOMG back. Even if the lv12 rings aren't introduced yet.

After asking for so long, I don't know many who expected to get zOMG back exactly as it was, if at all. So, probably, no worries there; maybe the level 12 rings can be exchanged/alchemized for something easier to code?

I feel sorry for Gaia losing so much development data, though. Hopefully, there's a back-up somewhere, somehow.

I love your passion for the project Lanzer, but please don't over stretch yourself! It's amazing what you have done so far, i think the community can cut you some slack for keeping us informed and trying ya darndest to get the game back up and running. Please don't burn out!

The way I see it my man. Start from the base and work your way up. Everything doesn't have to be added all at once. This is what makes games like zOMG! Entertaining constant updates. The Lv12 Rings and the dark orbs and new areas can just be an update. Don't kill yourself with this all from the start or you will be burnt out.

But with all honesty, I would be happy if it was just up and running by the beginning of summer. So no rush, take your time and get plenty of rest. Thank you so much for working on this and bringing it back. Don't give up, and Good Luck!

Ah no, I'm so sorry. That's devastating. I don't suppose those drives are still around and are in any way possibly recoverable? I don't know how much you know about drive recovery, but my partner is a database developer and knows a lot about it - he's recovered some pretty damaged drives before and considered making his own business of it. I'm sure this isn't helpful since you probably have already tried this route/have it at your disposal already, but if all else fails I could more than likely get him to help remotely if you needed.

That's truely unfortunate. Hopefully the code can be rebuilt or found. I'm very found of dms. Dms became a big things cause it was most challenging and rewarding. Either way though if that can't come back I would mind just smebbing again. Forget what we called it lol

It's all right, I don't mind if you can only bring back the original zOMG. I never played DMS much anyway and I don't mind if the maximum CL of the rings is 10. At least you've been trying your best, that's good enough for me!

Honestly? I think everyone just wants to see zOMG back in one way or another. If you can salvage what you find, I think that's all what a lot of people want back. If there's room for improvement, awesome. We are ready with welcome arms.

Now, how about bringing MoGa back to Gaia? ninja

So now I'm trying to think, the rings that are at 12.0 - does that mean we wouldnt be able to use the ring at all? Or would it just be set up to 10.0 maximum, instead? confused

I think it's pretty safe to say that most of us here just really appreciate having you back and all that you are doing to bring zOMG back to us. The days before dark orbs and DMS were fun too. Just please don't overwork yourself, we can wait a while longer and then we can just all look forward to updates as you can. heart

Holy smokes, Lanzer. That is quite a set back. I hope the engineers can find some newer code..something to make the process go smoother..Less bugs, more enjoyable experience. You're quite the trooper for hanging in with us!

if you cant get them back its ok lanzer, having the game be in a playable state is whats most important <3 and hopefully later on zomg can be added on to once things settle down gaia wise and stable enough to have someone working on zomg <3

Don't worry about the time to fix it! We can wait until you can completely fix the code and recover whatever might have been lost. DMS is a great part of zOMG! and it would have a hollow if there were no DMS in zOMG! Please also consider re-releasing Sweetheart/ Fortune's favour/ Sugar rush and Integrity ring! Do your best!

We're in no hurry, we all are just glad that someone's working on zOMG again! Don't stress over it for us sake, you just keep calm, xd

We can always go back to the original zOMG with the normal orbs and ring levels at 10.0, and if you want, you can just release zOMG as the original and work on the dark orbs and 12.0 rings "IF! you want to" <<<<< sorry if all this sounds annoying or stupid

Frankly I wouldn't be sad if you said "zOMG is back, we lost x, y, and z, sadly x, y, and z will have to remain as a fond memory. But don't worry we will bring something new in its place in time!"
