i should be sleeping but i'm a little disturbed.
my friend had posted an opinion piece by a nazarene pastor who went to a trump rally in florida (post election), just cuz, he wasn't really against the pres or anything. but the guy goes there, sees people raising their hands (like worship) and singing God bless America... and says it feels wrong to him, like it's demonic.
And I can completely understand this guy.
I'm very much afraid that the "church" has forgotten not only how to worship but Who to worship.
When we can't admit the faults of our elected leader because he's "better than Killery", i worry we have idolized the president.
This woman starts to reply to my friend and the article shared.. and her whole stance is she thinks it's okay to worship at a rally, that she's really only in it for the babies, because killery is for abortion and trump is supposedly against abortion (which actually... he slipped early in the campaign and opened his mouth and said something pro-choice and later had to say it was his bad and he was stupid in not knowing what it meant... um... yeah... you elected him, lady. and you think he's going to save babies.. okay. let's see what happens)
My issue isn't about, and never was about the person who sits in the oval office.
(i believe they are puppets anyway lol!)
The moment we look to government and sing songs about them... that sounds like worship to me.
Sure, the lyrics may be asking God to bless America... but.... what is it you're asking for?
I know too many "christians" who only ask for blessing. Did they ask for God to glorify Himself ? Did they ask that through His glorification, people would see Him for Who He is, and how his saving grace is sufficient?
No. Let's bless America, cuz I love it. Let's let the good times roll so I don't have to pray to God anymore.
"Don't even try to tell me what prayer is for
My Genie in a bottle needs to give me some more
And when this mess is over-I don't need Him anymore
I'll put my God back on temporary ignore"

Yeah. Bless America so we don't have to have a relationship with God.
Bless America, so I can feel fulfilled in my cargo cult. (google anthropology cargo cult)
And to that woman, who so single mindedly focused on one issue (abortion), i'm disturbed and find myself more steadfast to my original point of thoroughly disliking nationalism and leader worship.
It made me realize - God's glory and worshipping Him (and not any god, idol etc etc) is paramount. Everything else we do should flow out of that worship.
So I wouldn't raise my hands in praise at a rally. if nothing else than to abstain from the appearance of worshipping in an inappropriate place.
