Wanna know how my day was?

A Best Friend's Oath

It took a little while, but I finally managed to catch up with Lloyd. He isn't around much anymore since he's still trying to gather all the exspheres. There are so many... It may be impossible to gather all of them alone. I really wanted to go with him, but he encouraged me to finish school first, so that's what I'm doing now. I made him promise to send me letters occasionally to let me know how he's doing and keep me up to date with his progress on the exsphere hunt.

Today was a convenient day for us to hang out. I only had morning classes, and he'd promised to go see Dirk so he'd be close enough to visit Iselia. We promised to meet at noon, so I'd have no problem getting back to Iselia by then if I took a reihard. I was in my mathematics class on the second floor in Sybak when I noticed him. He was standing outside the building, looking up at me with that stupid grin of his, waving and calling my name. Idiot... I was obviously still in class, but there were only a few minutes left anyway. Luckily no one else heard him so he didn't disrupt the lecture.

When I got downstairs after class I asked him why he didn't wait for me in Iselia. He said he might as well meet me here to save time. I smiled. He must have really missed me. We were about to leave when Mighty called out to us. He ended up going to school in Sybak too since the one in Palmacosta got destroyed. He actually remembered Lloyd and smirked at him. He commented on how he still couldn't believe Lloyd only got 25 points out of 400 when he took that test with us two years ago. I still can't stand Mighty... Lloyd was about to retort, most likely with something stupid, but I cut him off quickly. I told him Mighty wasn't worth his time and dragged him away. Mighty hates being ignored, so I knew he'd be mad for the rest of the day.

Lloyd and I spent the rest of the day laughing and talking and updating each other on our lives. I tried to explain what I'd been learning about magic in school and how it's made me stronger, but of course, he didn't understand any of it. Lloyd's gotten stronger, too since he's been traveling so much. The more you travel, the more monsters you have to face. After talking to him about it, I found out that despite all the time he's spent collecting exspheres, Lloyd's only gotten about 5% of them. He told me not to worry about it, but I couldn't help but feel sad. I should be out there helping him. I'd promised I would...

At the end of the day we were at the top of the Fooji Mountains lying on the grass, looking up at the sky. There were so many stars out, and all the constellations that could be seen in our hemisphere were visible. We started naming them as we saw them. Somehow, it turned into a competition to see who could name the most. I barely won with Serpens and Ophiuchus. Lloyd tried to say they were technically one constellation, but I won the debate. We recalled a similar incident that happened when we were younger, only Lloyd won the competition that time. He chuckled as he remembered me pouting when I lost. I rolled my eyes but smiled none-the-less.

We were silent for a while after that. The only noise was the soft crackling of the fire we'd made earlier. I was the first to break the silence. I told Lloyd that I'd be joining him soon to help him with the exspheres. He frowned and started to protest, but I told him to hear me out. I explained to him that I've been working really hard and excelling in school. I cram in as many classes as I can each semester, and because of this I'll be graduating early. Next year, in fact. He was excited to hear that, but he looked a little worried. He told me I didn't have to do that for his sake, and if I changed my mind about coming with him after I graduated he was fine with that.

I smiled and shook my head. I made a promise, and I intend to keep it. I reminded him that when we were in Palmacosta I said I'd stick by him forever. I meant what I said. Lloyd smiled happily after seeing my determination. He reached over and ruffled my hair saying : "Thanks Genis. That means a lot." I grinned and reminded him that he's my best friend. I was happy to help him. There was one more thing I needed to tell him, though...

"Lloyd... Thanks for the emetic. It saved my life." He started laughing and mentioned how deadly Raine's soup looked. He reached in his pocket and pulled out another bottle of it and handed it to me. "Just in case you need more" he said. I sighed and took the bottle of the emetic, thanking him again for saving me from Raine's deadly soup. After that we headed back down the mountain and toward Iselia. We parted ways in the Iselia Forest since he was going to spend the night at Dirk's place. When I got home I smelled something familiar... Raine poked her haid out of the kitchen and smiled happily. She said she'd finally perfected her soup recipe. Looks like I might need that emetic sooner than I thought...

Reference: I Died. Thanks, Raine.
