Choosing the ideal central heating boiler for your home.

Modern boilers are much more reliable for numerous reasons, but their key advantage is that they are all condensing boilers. All well-maintained boilers use their fuel very efficiently, yet they inescapably waste some heat via the hot gases which escape up the flue. A condensing boiler has a bigger heat exchanger, so it recovers more heat, sends cooler gases up the flue and is more efficient.

From time to time the flue gases end up getting so cool that the water vapour in the gas condenses out (hence the name), and additional energy is recovered from the condensing vapour.

What must I factor in when replacing my boiler?

When it's time to replace your boiler, you have to figure out what kind of boiler is right for you. Here are some points to think about:
Fuel variety

If you have got mains gas, a gas Gas Engineer in Dudley is in all likelihood going to represent the most affordable heating option. Our fuel prices as of March 2016 imply that oil heating is at this time a cheaper option, on the other hand historically oil heating has been more pricey.

If you don't have a gas supply to your household, it may well be worth considering atype of low carbon heating such as a heat pump or biomass. With the renewable heat incentive these may be more cost-effective all round.

Alternatively you may wish to get yourself a gas connection to your property. The company that owns and runs the gas network in your area should be able to help with the expense of buying a new connection, and it may perhaps even be fully funded. Contact Energy Networks Association for further information.

Boiler type

Most old gas and oil boilers are regular boilers that have a standalone hot water cylinder to store hot water, rather than supplying it straight from the boiler. When you replace your boiler you'll be able to buy a new regular boiler, and keep your hot water cylinder, or buy a combi boiler which doesn't have to have a cylinder.

A normal boiler is far more efficient than a combi at generating hot water in the first instance, but some heat is displaced from the hot water cylinder, so a combi may be more effective overall.

Your hot water usage

Large families using a large amount of hot water are likely to be better off having a regular boiler, as opposed to smaller families using less might be more satisfied with a combi boiler.

Space in your home

Combi boilers don't require hot water cylinders, and consequently call for less space in your residence.

Compatibility with solar water heating

If you're contemplating installing solar water heating, it's worth noting that many combi boilers aren't compatible with this heating system orare not able to make use of it so effectively.
