The Daemon sages where synthetic life forms created by the Anchanti to fight some now unknown threat and the stones where their power sources in case the prototypes should fail, the stones are desgined to modify the new "Daemon sage" host to fit the specifications of the stones recorded memory and if need be adapt.

The Void stone was created as both a last resort and a fail safe with the ability to hold multiple stones in it's hosts body which gives Azreal quite the advantage but what makes him truly unique isn't this ability but the fact the psyche of Azreal is actually a created intelligence Implanted into a bioweapon, while this implantation was an accident (Nomaras implanted the Azreal Psyche into the Dur'ri parasite giving it sentience and a sense of self to save his house so the Dur'ri parasite didn't wipe out the entire drow city) Once created Azreal then began adapting himself and sought out the void stone as well as the other sage stones to recreate the bioweapons of the Anchanti. While his memory is patchy Azreal still seeks this goal almost obsessively though it seems he has no knowledge of it, He has since become a living entity instead of an artificially created one by gaining a soul and now has begun to remember why he was created.

The Forgotten enemy: Not much is known of this enemy other then they almost wiped out the Anchanti empire and left little to no evidence of their own existence or the Anchanti worlds they wiped clean of sentient life, the current theory is these things where an Anchanti weapon that they lost control of. The only reference to these things is an obscure one in the archives called them those that cleanse life. It spoke cryptically of the methodical and ruthless destruction of a major Anchanti settlement and research facility but all other records are lost even to the archivist.
