Search Engine Optimization :: How Should You Title Webpages?
When a new film appears and is going to be shown in cinemas one of the first weighty things that attracts us is the title. It is designed and is supposed to tell us much as it can about the genre that we can only look forward to seeing while watching it. The same things happen when you want to read an article, to be more precise you often want to follow through and read an article only when its title grabs your attention and you believe the article could be further enlightening delivering to you that which interests you or you are looking for. However, when applying this to a web page title this normal simplicity expands to be a bit more complicated.

As a matter of fact, when you write an article you are guided by what is going to be of interest for your readers, giving a title to the article you wish to reflect the subject of the matter given in the content and somehow intrigue the audience. Unfortunately this is not enough for creating the best web page title.

In order to understand this situation further you need to understand the process of a search engine and how it "reads" your titles when it crawls through your pages. In other words the name of your internet article is supposed to provide the search engine with the necessary information about the content. But do not give too an intriguing one, otherwise your article about say a "computer mouse" can be filtered and sorted together with those of "animal planet". Thus as you can see titling your web pages is a crucial moment and can directly influence your site ranking, so care is needed.

The biggest and most common mistake as well is leaving the pages untitled is for the site owners to use their own brand name instead. Do not be tempted or too self-assured about your company even if your brand is very well promoted think before you type.

Your purpose is to win visitors and those who have no idea what you do and what your business can offer reflects your target audience. Thus, as you can see in this case it is far better to have good keywords indicating your products or services in the title rather than your company name.

For example if you sell baby cots why should you not use the appropriate keywords such as "baby cots" or "baby furniture" or "baby beds" or "nursery furniture" instead of placing the name of your brand in the title of the article thus including information about this specific piece of nursery furniture.

In this case it is then better to mention your company in the article itself thus boosting up your brand. However if you are certain you need to place your company name on in the title it is better to place it after the key message. In addition there is another important thing to be mentioned here; it is the fact that all the pages should where at all possible have a unique title, even if the article includes more than one page of information.

Only if you keep to these pedantic rules will your pages eventually appear highly in the search engine rankings. Finally, do not use more than five or six words in the title, in many cases the end of your long phrase will be cut and the reader won't be able to read the title.

Moreover remember brevity is the soul of wit! For example if you write about UK SEO why can't you promote the title as UK web marketing! But please remember that even the best phrases can't always increase your site ranking in the search engines, however they may attract the reader and make him or her read your content. So good luck!
