Huawei Mate 8 ascends to dizzying heights of phablet-ness
Huawei launches the Mate 8 flagship phablet. The 6-incher promises to be fast, sleek, good value, get great battery life, and actually come with a up-to-date version of Android.

Wonders will never cease. (Although how good the OS updates will be is anyones guess.)

Release date outside China should be sometime in Q1. But you can buy one in China today, starting at $470.

In IT Blogwatch, bloggers look lustfully across the Pacific.

Your humble blogwatcher curated these bloggy bits for your entertainment.

OK, lets talk turkey. All men eat, but Andrei Frumusanu [You're fired -Ed.]Huawei Launches The Mate 8, with Kirin 950:

The specifications of the Mate 8 are a large departure from both the Mate S and Mate 7's, [but for] the characteristically large 4000mAh battery and 6" screen.

At the heart of the Mate 8 lies HiSilicon's new Kirin 950 SoC...a big.LITTLE design with 4x Cortex A53 running up to 1.8GHz serving as high-efficiency cores and 4x Cortex A72 high performance cores running at 2.3GHz. ... On the GPU side we see a Mali T880MP4 running at up to 900MHz.

Huawei promises that the Mate 8 [battery] will be able to last 30% longer than the Mate 7.

The device comes with [three] possible configurations:..3GB RAM with 32GB of NAND storage or 4GB RAM with 64GB or 128GB of storage...at respectively RMB2999, 3699 and 4399.

What version of Android is that? And whens the release date? Heres Liam Tung, with Huawei unwraps 6-inch Mate 8 flagship phablet - running Android Marshmallow:

China's Huawei has announced its flagship Mate 8 phablet...the first new handset other than Google's latest Nexus duo to ship with Android Marshmallow.

[The] global rollout [is] scheduled for the first quarter of 2016.

As a flagship, Huawei has given [it] an expensive look and feel, boasting an aluminium body and a generous 83 percent screen-to-body ratio...a fingerprint sensor in the middle of the back...a 16-megapixel main shooter and an 8MP selfie-snapper, while its full HD display has screen density of 368 pixels per inch.

Prices start 2,999 RMB ($469).

The rumors were true! So says Cam Bunton, in Huawei Mate 8 is official, features powerful Kirin 950 processor, full HD display and metal body:

After weeks of speculation and rumors, Huawei finally announced the Mate 8 in Shanghai [it] is expected to shed more light on the devices international launch at CES in January.

The Mate 8 looks like another great piece of hardware from the growing Chinese manufacturer. [It] is built primarily from aerospace-grade aluminum and features a gently rounded soft, anodized back.

Perhaps the most exciting feature is the...brand-new Kirin 950 processor. ... Early benchmarks suggest it will give the Snapdragon 820 and Samsung Exynos 8890...a run for their money.

Its going to be available in four colors: Space Gray, Moonlight Silver, Mocha Brown and Champagne Gold.

With a 6-inch screen, its not so small. Lets turn to Carly PageHuawei Mate 8 arrives with 6in screen, Kirin 950 and Android 6.0:

Huawei has unveiled the Mate 8, a smartphone that's as big as it is difficult to pronounce.

This Huawei-built chip is paired with an i5 co-processor, which Huawei boasts provides...speech recognition, low-power consumption MP3, all the functions of a sensor hub, fused location provider navigation and reduced location-based power consumption.

Don't expect a Nexus-like, stripped-back experience, though, as Huawei has topped Marshmallow with its EMUI 4.0 skin.

The launch of the Mate 8 sees Huawei looking to further boost its share of the smartphone market, having recently surpassed HTC and Sony to become Europe's second biggest Android vendor...according to analyst outfit Kanta.
