What is ELAM Medical School? A Place To Train The World's Doctors!
In 1997, Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba (MEDICC) was founded as a non-profit organization. The US, Cuban and global health communities started working to make better health outcomes for under served countries. This particular note can be attested to by Cuba's own singular universal health system and its evolving health policies, practice, research and education. We also see that the US and other nations' experience in medicine and medical research can attest to this practice in Cuba and the developing world. Above all, we believe that such cooperation is urgently needed to improve global health and wellness.

What is MEDICC's vision? Health for all is possible.

What is MEDICC's mission? MEDICC is always cooperating with the US, Cuban and world populations to improve health where needed, as well as promoting the Cuban way of informing global debate, policies and practice.

Why MEDICC? 1.3 billion people live, and die, without health care, most are in developing countries. Many of these people number in the Millions in the USA despite new laws. Being able to prove that political will, not wealth, is the key to Cuba's powerful messagea country whose people are achieving excellent outcomes because their health is a priority investment of the scarce resources at hand. Cuba's contribution to improving global health is demonstrated in three unique ways:

1. By Example: Cuba's people are healthy based on strong community-engaged primary care.

2. By Strong Global Health Systems: People in 70 countries are benefiting from Cuba's Global health program. 38,000 Cuban health professionals have provided health services in the most unusual places. When disaster struck in Haiti, they were there as long as needed, staffing the public health facilities.

3. By training Doctors to work all over the world surprised ver 15,000 doctors have already graduated from Cubas Latin American Medical School (ELAM), with 20,000 more students currently enrolled from and for poor communities worldwide, including the USA!

."The most important contribution Cuba has made to global health is its example that you can introduce the notion of a right to health care and wipe out the diseases of poverty." Paul Farmer MD, Partners in Health & Harvard University
