The best way to Care for Cleaning Gear
As a cleaning business owner, how many times do you walk right into a janitor closet and find filthy mop buckets, grimy gear, vacuum cleaners that haven't been emptied, and spray bottles that no longer spray correctly? Have you or your supervisors taken the time to train your workers on the best way to correctly care for your gear? Use this checklist to help keep your materials and equipment.
Plastic Spray Bottles
Wipe bottles as essential to prevent build-up and deposit
Replace label when desired
Occasionally take apart trigger and clean to avoid clogging
Wipe down inside and outside as needed
Rags
Do not leave lying around - they're a safety and disorder risk. Keep in a bag for filthy rags
Discard greasy or oily rags
Wipe and disinfect front edge as needed
Brushes
Rinse in clear, cold water, shake out excess. If brush is not clean, wash it out in lukewarm cleaning solution and rinse with clear water. Let dry with bristles straight.
Storage - hang brush - don't set the brush weight on the bristles.
Sweepers
Don't use when wet, usually do not stand on its straws. Do not use broom for scrubbing. Rotate often so that it'll wear evenly.
After each days use, wipe knife to eliminate debris and moisture.
Store in clean, dry place.
Edge the blade as needed to make sure it stays sharp
Measuring Cups
Rinse with water immediately.
Dust Mops
Do not use dry mops to pick up liquids. Don't use dust mops on greasy floors.
Remove frequently, using a vacuum cleaner if possible shake into large waste receptacle.
Never store a mop on the floor. Hang the mop so air can circulate.
Wet Mops
Soak for several minutes to get rid of sizing, before using a mop that is new and toughen the fibers.
Rinse after use.
Do not twist the mop in the wringer. As the fibers will break if it is squeezed too challenging or twisted it can be ruined.
Cut uneven or loose strands off.
Never stow on the ground or in the mop bucket.
Floor Finish Mops
After using, wash out all floor finish or wax with water that is clean.
Wring out as much water as you can, shake to fluff strands.
Never use soap or detergent on a mop designed for floor finish.
Place mop in a clean plastic bag after use.
Buckets & Wringers
Do not use force - use only enough hand pressure on the lever to wring the mop out.
Remove that becomes tangled in the wringer.
Wash and scrub all surfaces of the bucket with disinfectant. Rinse with hot water and wipe dry. Keep wringer tight and oiled.
Keep wringer in "release" position if it is not used.
Rinse blade after use in water that is clean.
Dry, do not keep with blade down or crouched.
Upright Vacuum Cleaners
Empty bag often.
Wipe outside of hoover after emptying.
Assess belt for cuts and change when needed.
Empty magnet bar after every use.
Buffers
Wipe down entire surface after the use of each day. Also wipe cord.
Assess pad for replacing.
Blow out motor roughly every 2 weeks.
Check bolts and screws to ensure they're tight.
Slow Speeds
Wipe entire surface down after the use of each day. Also wipe twine.
Rinse tank after each use.
Assess drive unit for fractures on wear.
Faux Flooring Pads
Flooring pads can be used on either side. Once both sides have been used, the pad must be set aside for soaking or cleaning.
Flooring pads can be cleaned by rubbing one against the surface of another one. Or you also may use a hand scratcher. Follow by giving a final rinse of cold water and rinsing with a sharp stream of water that is hot. Pads that usually do not react for this strategy must be soaked in a concentration of synthetic detergent or stripping solution. Following a final rinse of cold water, the pads needs to be shaken and placed on a level, non-rusting surface for drying. Pads aren't ready for re-use until they're completely dry.
Hint: They may be cut into small sections which can be used as hand or foot scratch pads, when pads become worn.
Wet/Dry Vacs
Rinse out inside, wipe out and inside after each use.
Rinse and discount cleaning products wipe fasteners and hoses.
Carpeting Machines
Rinse in of tank, filters, hoses and attachments out.
Discharge pressure.
Wipe outside.
When empty, rinse out, spray water through sprayer to help keep from becoming plugged up.
