{The English Springer Spaniel, History of a Hunter or History of a Show Dog?
During the 19th century, naming them after the country where they were developed or after their owners who were of nobility developed most of the spaniel breeds. The term springer comes in the historical stories how they'd spring to flush the birds into the air. Two strains of the land spaniel became prominent and were said to be the "authentic springer type". They were named the Norfolk and Shropshire spaniels revealing beneath the breed name of the Norfolk spaniel. The Spaniel Club of England and the Sports Spaniel Society held the primary field dog trial collectively in 1899 leading to the development in 1902 of the English Springer Spaniel, a composite of physical standards plus ability standards which was then understood by the English Kennel Club followed by the American Kennel Club in 1910. In 1914 the crown went to an English Field Champ named FTC Rivington Sam, whose documented dam occurred to be a cocker spaniel. Today Sam is regarded as among the founding sires for the modern lines of spaniels we see nowadays.

The English springer spaniel can be used now for just two functions; as a hunting dog so that as a show dog. It's a medium-sized dog that is both tender and excitable. Its hair is rather long that feathers down the legs and its tail. It's known as a well-proportioned balanced dog that was. This strain perhaps can represent the largest divergence between the functioning along with the show lines of the english springer spaniels spaniels. Although registered together, the gene pool stays has been for over 70 years now and segregated. The field dogs tend to possess courser, jackets that are shorter. They are wiry looking and have a feral look about them along with their tails being docked just a couple of inches rather than the usual show-bred spaniel which will be docked for a quick stub where permitted. For both, the jackets come in either liver or black with white markings or white with liver or black markings; tricolor, which will be white and black or liver with tan markings. These tan markings are usually found on the eyebrows, inside the dogs ears along with the underneath the tail itself. Although these dogs simply shed in the spring and summer months but sometimes will shed in the autumn.

The English Springer Spaniel isn't limited to only hunting and dog shows; due with their uncanny sense of smell, they also have been trained for sniffing out explosives, in order to sniff a prison guards phone and tell when an offender has an illegal telephone inside their pocket. They have been employed to sniff out bumblebee nests that can't be seen from above ground, to sniff out illegal immigrants and in some places, they've been trained to sniff out blood. And of course, they are useful for sniffing out drugs by agencies in numerous states including Finland and Sweden.

Above all, the English springer spaniel makes an excellent family dog. They are friendly and keen to please their owners. They get as well as other creatures really easily and adore children. They have plenty of stamina and require regular exercise to keep them from being drilled. Once these critters are left watch out and do get drilled, they can become mischievous and harmful. Springer spaniels also enjoy water and certainly will take every chance they get to take a swim; beware at all times should you own an in-ground pool! A beautiful dog to make a happy-ending family.
