Every business, whether new or previously existing, can get massive exposure through the leverage that the internet offers.

Increased exposure = Increased Revenue

The number of Internet users and sales is only going to continue to increase, so it will benefit you to learn how to tap into this rapidly expanding audience.

What is Internet Marketing?

Internet Marketing (or Web Marketing) is simply using the Internet to advertise a product or service. Im sorry to disappoint you if you were looking for a longer and more descriptive definition. While the concept is simple, learning and applying the numerous techniques is another story. There is so much information on the topic, and so many different strategies that it can feel like an overwhelming, or even impossible, feat to learn how to market on the Internet. Im going to break everything Ive learned over the years for you, so that you can begin to understand Internet Marketing, and start implementing some of the strategies gradually.

Internet Marketing Categories

Basically, all of the Internet Marketing strategies will fall into one of the 5 categories of what an Internet Marketer is involved in.

1. SEO

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. A search engine is a software system designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. Google is probably the most popular search engine, but you have probably also heard of Yahoo, Bing, or Ask.

As an Internet Marketer, SEO means learning how to get your website to display on the first page of the Search Engine Results Page (or SERP) for optimal exposure. When somebody searches for a particular keyword (a word or phrase that describes what you are promoting), ideally you want to display on the first page of results or as high up as possible. This increases the chances that they will click on your link, thus giving you traffic.

This doesnt just happen automatically. Theres quite a lot to learn about SEO strategies, but some examples are link building and keyword research and placement.

2. Paid Search

Paid Search is a form of paid advertising to promote a business or product. The most commonly seen paid ads are the ones that display on the SERPs. They are marked as ads. These are called PPC (Pay Per Click) ads. The advertiser pays every time that ad gets clicked on. There are also other paid methods such as Facebook advertising, PPV (pay per view) ads, and banner ads.

Paid search is a more advanced method, which you shouldnt jump into, as a newbie, until much later down the road. If you dont know what you are doing, it can end up costing you a lot of money with little results and I dont want you to have to spend much money to begin!

3. Social media management

Social media is the interaction of people using platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, or Google+ to share information and ideas. There is no cost to using these social networks and many people have built successful businesses simply by becoming social media experts.
