Free seed catalogs start arriving in the mailbox in January. This is a good time to browse and decide what you would like to include in your garden in the spring. Many new varieties are offered each year and it is fun to try a few new ones.
There are a few things to keep in mind when ordering your seeds. Ordering from a company near your growing zone will guarantee plants that will do well in your area. Look for disease resistance. There is nothing more disappointing then having a beautiful plant that suddenly gets struck by disease.
The first step to take before ordering a catalog, is to plan out your garden. You need to decide how many seeds you need per person of each variety. It is easy to get carried away when you order.

If you haven't recieved any catalogs in the mail, some companies will send you theirs free. Most will send you one next year, if you place an order with them. If you don't want to bother, you can view many of them online.
Warning! Browsing seed catalogs is fun, but you'll long for the summer months when there is still snow on the ground. Spring will seem like it will never arrive.
