10 Runner Ups?
I'm showing up a year late with Starbucks. I wanted to do this entry for months but with school and the weddings I've had to attend and getting the wrong meds which led to a minor episode of severe psychosis... I've had a busy few months and I really wanted to get this entry out there. I'll tell you guys ALL about the s**t I went through the last few weeks but I want to get my mind off of that. and no shut up its not like i'm sad i don't have fallout 4 what the ******** are you talking about, i just need to gather my thoughts -begins to sob audibly-

These are games I enjoyed, they aren't my favorite but they don't deserve to be skimmed over. Okay, some do but I still enjoyed them. Also, these are in no particular order.

#10 - Silent Hill 2, PS2, 2001
I'm not too sure what is about the second Silent Hill that I remember so well. James wasn't all that memorable to me, I remember making fun of him a lot when I was in highschool. Sunderland just isn't a very tough dude. When you get further into the game you wouldn't think so, but I like to keep my bias 16 year old opinions even though I know my outlook has changed. Silent Hill 2 did bring us Pyramid Head, who is very, very disturbing and badass. Even the supporting cast is really memorable, actually. I remember Angela and I remember Maria. This game is super heavy. You could say playing this game actually lead to me studying psychology now, just because of how impressive the undertones are the game; all of it stemming straight into psychological horror. I don't know, I have to give this game my respect because I might not remember a lot, I do remember what mattered, such as the decisions and the multiple endings.

#9 - The Last of Us, PS3, 2013
This is the one other game I cried at. At the the very ******** beginning, For those who have played, you know what happens in the opening segment of the game and who dies. And YES. It made me cry.
Besides that, The Last of Us is such a well put together game. Graphics, yes. Gameplay, yes. Story, yes. The Last of Us is an amazing experience, start to finish. There are few jumpscares, if any in the game and I was tense the entire time I played. I love the game for what it could present. I've only played through once and I plan on playing it again. The game could be seen a s slow moving, but I think It's paced perfectly. The game throws a lot at the player and I was invested in the characters and their relationships. Like... uncomfortably invested. The game does a great fakeout somewhere in the middle and I fell for it, hook, line and sinker.
The game does have gratuitous violence but this is the one game where I thought it would be less of a game if it didn't have that violence, it makes the game much more intense and enjoyable.

#8 - Soul Calibur II, Gamecube, PS2, 2002
Soul Calibur II is a game I haven't played in years... but I'm always thinking about it. This was an entry that hit all the high marks. The fighter designs were simple and elegant, everyone had a great story line and alternate costumes. One of my favorite parts of the game were the joke weapons the players could fight with. I was not one of those Arcade kids, I loved watching people though. When my brother bought me this game for my birthday, I found myself making sure to unlock everything, beat all the highscores. I knew little about the series but I became a student of this title gleefully as I made my mark in the game. The other Soul Calibur's I find lack the express simplicity and elegance this entry had. The third was god ******** awful for it's glitches, I know the fourth was well received but I didn't play it much and the last one is V, which has a terribly paced campaign which actually had me pitch my PS3 controller against a wall. So I don't have very good memories of those entries. Special mention to Soul Calibur Legends which guest starred Lloyd Irving as a playable character. This was awful too, though.

#7 - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, 2005, 2006, 2007
I got really into Ace Attorney right before I turned 21. Like. REALLY. into it. It all started when I went to Game Stop with my mom and I saw the game Justice For All just chilling for 15.99. I thought. "Yes, I know these memes, I'm going to have fun." And then I spiraled so fast into madness I'm still suffering from whiplash. I really want to replay these games again. I enjoyed them, A LOT. They aren't my favorite, I mean, I got into it super late and I rushed through the games so quickly that I burned all my outlets on the fandom. I was solely focused in the series for 4 months straight with no breaks. Right after that I just stopped caring. This was also caused by the fact I got into a huge life altering incident and having this game sometimes triggers those bad memories to come back. This series also helped me through that time, hilariously. Still, everyone knows Ace Attorney. Quick witted, meme filled, cruel and mean but also light hearted and fun. This was a series that was really close into getting into my top 20, but fell just a little short.

#6 - Animal Crossing: New Leaf, 3DS, 2012
I spent 256 hours in this ******** game. Goddammit.

#5 - Super Mario World, SNES, 1990
This is the first platformer I played. I have extremely fond memories of my time playing this game but also loved watching my older siblings. Yes, I did enjoy watching people who actually knew how to play games. Playing the game for myself and going though the Boo mansions and finding Yoshie, it was all pretty magical to me. I felt a great connection to the music, the graphics and the colorful scenery. Look at the underground levels, even though it's dull blue's and grey's, it's still has that shine that pulls me in.

#4 - The World Ends With You, DS, 2007
This game was recommended to me by a good friend. I didn't think much about the game itself, it looked like fun so I though why the hell not. I was surprised at just how much thought was put into the game. The gameplay was certainly offbeat but very intuitive. I enjoyed the atmosphere a lot as well. What I enjoyed the most was probably going to the stores and shopping, I spent a lot of time looking at all the items and figuring out what was best for my companions and myself.
Special mention goes to the soundtrack. It probably had the best soundtrack on the entire DS library. The music was well composed, powerful and pumping. All of it together makes a very great game that I might play again one day.

#3 - Tales of the Abyss, PS2, 3DS 2006, 2012
I wanted to put Vesperia here but I felt a larger connection to Abyss. This is an entry that I feel had a lot of ideas and ambition, and it didn't seem to express itself properly and some of the writing falls flat at times. Regardless, it is expressly a coming of age story. It deals a lot with identity and inner demons and I find myself imagining the ideas crossing over into realm of Final Fantasy IX. They do share some similarities and this might be why I find this game so familiar.

#2 - Megaman X: Command Mission, PS2, GameCube, 2004
A lot of people call this game the worst Megaman game ever. AT LEAST IT WAS ******** PLAYABLE. I guess the extreme genre whiplash was the reason. Critics found the game mediocre. I played this game though, a lot. I have to admit platformer to RPG is a pretty big leap, but Mario did it, twice by the time this game came out. I guess it's part of the fact that Mario dabbled in multiple genres. I like this game because the narrative is pretty big in scale. Hell, even Giga city is huge. So the scope is at least impressive. Keiji Inafune, the creator of Megaman, flat out said no to this, but it happened anyway.
The cast is great, there are great enemies and the allies are pretty neat, too. You get the three main dudes, X, Zero and Axl. But they're followed by Spider, Marino, Cinnamon the GREAT MASSIMO. He has a cute little story arc. The characters you meet, like the supporting cast, are interesting at least and I still remember Nana and Chief R. They were pretty cool.

#1 - Final Fantasy X-2, PS2, 2003
There is one reason why I didn't put this in the top 20. I ******** hate the story. Like the main point of the game is finding someone whose dead and getting jealous over a piece of evidence that is pretty clearly NOT who she's looking for. It's just dumb. (Though I blame this on Rikku). The saving grace is that it does get better and the focus DOES change part way through, like choosing the factions, Either Youth League or New Yevon to follow. The best part of this game is Garment Grid. The battle system and the abilities make this game something phenomenal. There are around 17 dresspheres. 3 more that are exclusive to one character. So 20. The designs are fantastic. Each girl has a cool costume and their own twist. Every dressphere has it's unique abilities and certain accessories allow you to merge fighting styles together. This system ensured that you could have the best and most powerful characters you could get in a game. It doesn't even take that long. Yuna equipped with the Cat's Bell as a gunner and using Trigger Happy can pretty much lay everyone low before the fight even starts. Even better you could be a hard hitter like a Dark Knight or Berserker and with the right equipment can be merged with a Mage or the Lady Luck. The possibilities were vast and allowed any play style to shine. I really want more games with this theme because of the freedoms.

Yeahhhh more games. I really wanted to do a Halloween game month. All the Five Nights at Freddy's games, SOMA, Layers of Fear, P.T, Outlast, Resident Evil: Revelations, Silent Hill and a few others. but because of how busy I got during my break, I didn't have enough time. I don't think I'll go back to write these now but I might come back after the new year to write about it. Who knows, we'll have to see.
