Do you run mid-job? If so, the chances are pretty good that you're not really a good estimator. You are most likely guessing when you need to be estimating and all your projects and finances are suffering as a result. If you want your construction jobs to be a success then you need to be able to accurately estimate the amount of time along with that materials that will be needed the work will take. For example, say you have a wall that you need to place a door frame in. It is hopeless to say how much by just taking a look at the wall the occupation will cost. You need take measurements to thoroughly measure the wall and check prices. Guesstimating won't only lead to the loss of money. It will be your lack of time plus effort which will lose those jobs. Suppose you quote and overestimate a a price that is high. You will likely lose that job to the guy who did good estimates and came up using a cost that is lesser. Any great competition that you have in the construction market will make correct and careful estimates. Don't foolishly lose money through laziness. Guesstimating properties you in trouble because each occupation differs, and only because a job should, in theory, be much like one that you've worked on before, it doesn't automatically mean it will be. Whilst you shouldn't dismiss your previous experience altogether, you do have to be wary of not fully taking into account what actually stands before you. Thus, do not let any be a guesstimate. Use mathematical techniques and scientific methods. Perhaps you need to find a mentor who has more expertise making estimates than you do. However frustrated you might get, no guessing! You had enough materials to complete the job will have won the occupation, and won't be borrowing from the current job to cover a past occupation.
