CNN.com - Baby products recalled over safety problems
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced recalls of four baby products Wednesday, citing potential safety hazards.

The company Safety 1st is voluntarily recalling approximately 1.5 million booster seats, the CPSC said, because they can separate and improperly secure a child.

The fold-up seats have model numbers 173, 173A and 173B. The seat is blue plastic with green and red arms and a yellow feeding tray. "Safety 1st" is molded into the top and bottom of the seat. Other booster seat models are not included in the recall.

The seats were sold in major toy stores across the country from January 1994 through August 1999.

There have been 32 reports of the seats separating, and children have received injuries ranging from http://jimenezgydekpqjce.page.tl/Baby-Essentials-Checklist-d--My-Top-5-Must-Have-Baby-Items.htm bumps and bruises to a broken arm. Consumers are urged to stop using the devices immediately.

A baby swing made by Little Tikes is also being voluntarily recalled, CPSC officials said, because a buckle defect could cause children to fall out. There have been 14 reports of problems, five of which resulted in minor injuries like bruises, bumps and cuts.

The swings were sold nationwide from December 2000 through September 2001. Consumers are advised to stop using the swings immediately and call 1-800-815-4820 for a free repair kit.

A possible entrapment hazard has prompted the voluntary recall of approximately 102,000 Cosco playpens.

The tabs on the playpen that lock the rails into place can fail allowing the playpen to collapse, the CPSC said.

The playpens were sold under the name "Zip n Go", "Okie Dokie," and "Carters."

An 11-month-old from Elyria, Ohio died when the playpen collapsed on him. There have been 421 reports of the playpen not locking or collapsing.

The "Zip n Go" and "Carters" playpen was sold at department and juvenile stories nationwide from January 1995 through December 1999. The "Okie Dokie" playpen was sold exclusively at JC Penney stores. All playpens sold for between $40 to $70.

Consumers are being urged to stop using the playpens immediately. Consumers can request a refund or free replacement product from Dorel by calling 1-800-314-9324.

The final recall announced by the government safety agency Wednesday involves about 20,500 wooden baby gates.

The Evenflo Home Decor Swing baby gates have faulty mountings that can crack or break, allowing children to pass through the gates, and possibly posing a choking hazard.

There have been nine reports of the gates giving way and children falling down stairs. Most of the children suffered bumps and bruises and at least one child's teeth were loosened. There have been no choking injuries.

The Home Decor Swing baby gates being recalled were manufactured before September 2001 and were sold from June 1999 through September 2001. They sold for about $100. The only model involved in the recall is number https://www.babybeddingzone.com/ 1555/6. The gates have wooden spindles and were sold in oak or cherry finish.

Consumer are being urged to stop using the gates immediately. Parents can order free replacement hardware by calling 1-800-576-0507 or logging on at www.swinggate.com.
