When we were designing the house, I had the laundry room placed right off the kitchen, says Rashell. Its the perfect spot to stow stuff when entertaining, which we really like to do. But thats not all the laundry room also acts as a mud room, since its the main entrance to the house from the barn.



Rashell had as much closed storage as possible installed using custom cabinetry, which was painted in a semi-gloss finish because its easier to clean. The indestructible quartz counter can handle any task, from folding clothes to arranging flowers freshly cut from the garden. The matte grey porcelain tile floor camouflages dirt and dust.



I didnt just want to wallpaper the laundry room I wanted to wallpaper it with a horse pattern, says Rashell, who searched high and low for the right one to complement the houses contemporary aesthetic. She eventually found this modern swedish-designed black and white paper. Its simple, quirky and fun, with just the right amount of country.

"I don't think people realize how much time they spend in their laundry room. Making it functional as well as fun is important."
