Fredrik: Tattoos 1
xoxoFredrik picked up tattoos at fifteen. His mom was pissed.

xoxoThe first was the Lesser Seal of Sweden, his native country. It was a way of expressing how homesick he was for the forests he and his sister used to play in when they were kids. A girl he liked once helped talk him into the design, and after that, Swedish scenery and symbolism became a theme for him. He had a tree of life tattooed on the right side of his body while drunk that same year, requesting the trunk be converted into a 'sexy skeleton or whatever'. He was lucky the artist had just enough sense to make it tasteful. The blackbird was a thoughtful addition, being the national bird of Sweden. It became tangled in the branches of the tattooed tree.

xoxoAt sixteen, his relationship became strained with his twin sister. It was a deeply scarring part of both their lives, and in recognition of it, he tattooed an abstract swan between his shoulder blades, symbolizing the warping of his love for Freya. Three years or so later, he added two gerbera flowers, her favorites, to his left side, their long stems intertwining only right before ending.

xoxoHis Medic tattoo, (a red cross with the words edged up against it) was a cheeky addition for his twentieth birthday, when he became loosely associated with the Shadow for his healing abilities. His way of staring his own insecurity in the face. On the calf. Whatever.

xoxoThroughout all that time, his arms remained blank like a canvas waiting for the right painting to come along. It happened after he watched his recruiter, Cassandra, for a while. In a weird way, he started developing feelings for her that he instantly understood would never be reciprocated. All the same, he added a cryptic tattoo of an elk and a moth to his right forearm, the latter creature an unofficial symbol in his mind for the woman. The elk, of course, came from Swedish imagery. Multiple armbands came later, mostly on whim. There are rings tattooed on his fingers and upper arms with little meaning but a lot of symbolism -- drunken decisions and arms as weaponry. The last tattoo are the bands on his left forearm, which cross over each other on the inside. He can't quite place what they mean into words - not that he would say this much about any of them - but he knows it in his heart, and that's good enough for him.

xoxoIt might also be an excuse for lazy writing, but I like the mystery.
