Ed Sheeran has confirmed that he has once again teamed up with One Direction and has a song on their upcoming fourth album, FOUR. Sheeran and the One Direction boys have worked together several times in the past with Sheeran writing songs like "Little Things" and "Moments" for the group on previous albums.
"I got a call from [Simon] Cowell the other day," Sheeran told MTV News in a interview released this week, adding that he's been told his song has made the final album track-listing, but he's not completely sold:
But you never know, it might happen last minute where it's taken off, like that's how it works in this industry."
One Direction band member Zayn Malik also confirmed the news to MTV at the iHeartRadio Music Festival saying:
The one that he wrote, more of a ballad. But I think we are going in that kind of lane. It sounds cool, we'll take that."
Meanwhile, Sheeran revealed that his record label was "very annoyed" by the success of his One Direction song "Little Things," which went to No. 1 on the U.K. Singles Chart.
Speaking to Nova-FM this week, Sheeran also revealed that his label told him not to contribute another song to the boys or any other artist in general.
I wasn't going to do it again because my record label got very annoyed that my first number one was a song I gave to somebody else and they were like, 'Don't do it'."
But I did Britain's Got Talent and Simon Cowell ... mentioned it ... and then the next day I was in Copenhagen and I just got an idea and I went in the shower room, where it's big and reverberative and wrote it and I was like, 'That sounds like a song that would be perfect for them', and sent it across"
Sheeran added:
It's one of these songs that I wouldn't have used for myself; it was written specifically for them."
One Direction's new album, FOUR, is out on Nov. 17.
