Acne Scarring - What are the Best Treatment Options?
Having acne can be traumatic, but acne scarring is terrible, especially if you seem to be stuck with it. It's true that not all types of acne result in scarring, but the cases that do scar are the ones that cause us to be distraught. Some types of acne scars - and there are various types - will be more serious and need to be surgically removed. Other acne scarring will respond successfully to natural remedies or non-prescription treatments from your pharmacy. Our focus in this report is to make you aware of a few of the different treatment approaches you can choose from for removing your acne scarring.

Acne scarring comes in distinct patterns and, to help us know which types of scars we have, experts have classed the scars and given them names. Icepick scars are one of the most common types, and these actually have the appearance your skin might have if it was pierced with an icepick. Because icepick scars are quite deep, treating them successfully is usually difficult.

A different type of scar is called the Boxcar scar and it is either oval or round in shape and the edges are sharp. Acne scars that appear wavy, or rolling, on the surface of the skin are called Rolling scars. There are other acne scar patterns also, but these are the most common. Each one responds best to a specific type of treatment. Home microdermabrasion kits are now readily available so you can gently remove the outer layer of your skin, including superficial scarring. Plastic surgeons have used the dermabrasion technique, and the home version is similar. However, it's a lot easier and less aggressive and you can do it yourself. This is obviously a lot easier and less expensive than having surgery, so it may be worth trying. You simply use the machine to get rid of the surface layer of your skin - and your scars - and, as a result, new and healthy skin is exposed. When you've finished, your skin will be healthy and younger looking, and you will be rid of your surface scarring. Your first impression might be that this sounds harsh, but it is gentle, easy to do, and painless. However, it may not work on deeper acne scars, as it's aimed at the outer layer of your skin.

it's not hard to find OTC products that clear up an acne outbreak, but have you also noticed the products that have been manufactured to remove scars? The main ingredients in these scar-removal products are usually Vitamin E, aloe vera, a retinoid such as retinol, and Vitamin C.

Products like this are great for treating insignificant scars; however, if your scarring is deep - such as Icepick scars - these over-the-counter treatments may not be sufficient. The best way to decide which of these products to try is to search for actual customer reviews, or testimonials, on the internet. Unrealistic hopes won't serve you when you consider using an OTC product to remove your acne scarring. These products weren't designed to help with severe acne scars. Carefully investigate the various methods of removing, or reducing, your acne scars that you have available before making a decision. As mentioned above, it's always a good idea to get the opinion of a dermatologist. He or she will be able to tell you which treatment method is best for your particular circumstances. You should remain optimistic, though, that an effective solution to your acne scarring is out there.
