Galley Kitchen Remodeling Ideas
A galley kitchen is a narrow kitchen that resembles a galley in a boat. It does not boast of a lot of space but is just as useful and efficient as a normal kitchen. There are ways around the minimal space that a galley kitchen has. Galley kitchen remodeling involves a combination of space management, a sense of color and shapes and sizes. It also involves having the right resources so as to put the ideas to use. This Buzzle article will share with you some ideas that you can use to give your galley kitchen an inviting appeal.

Dark Wood and Granite

One of the most basic elements of any remodeling project, let alone a galley kitchen remodeling one, is the material that you use in making the components of the kitchen. If you want to give your galley kitchen a look that says both simplistic and stylish, then using dark wood for the cabinets is an absolute must. Dark wood has a nice sheen to it that will reflect off the light within the kitchen and give it a brighter appearance. Coupled with granite for the counter tops, you have a galley kitchen that has a very sleek and smooth appearance. This idea will be best justified if you have a nice and big window right above the sink, which brings enough light to reflect off the surfaces. Accessorize with a bunch of fresh white flowers everyday.

Concealed Cabinetry

Galley kitchens, true to their name, are narrow and generally vertical kitchens. These kitchens have space restrictions. That is why before implementing any idea you need to keep the space factor in mind. The amount of space is less, so it needs an idea that will make maximum use of the little space there is. And the best way to have enough space is to conceal your cabinets. Have the sink and the stove on opposite sides of each other. The overhead cabinets can all be concealed within the walls. This way, the cabinets don't jut out, and the kitchen has a more spaced out appearance. Use light and neutral colors like cream, beige, ivory, etc. for these cabinets. They have a size enhancing effect.

Efficient Storage

Storage becomes one of the biggest problems when it comes to galley kitchens. While this problem cannot be eradicated (unless you're planning to tear down a wall in your kitchen to extend it), you can use a fancy and efficient storage idea, that will not only enhance the appearance of your kitchen, but will also use its limited space to store all your daily requirements. There are stores that offer you what can be called a 'pull out pantry'. This is designed in such a way that it looks like your wall has handles, but when you pull on them, your entire pantry is concealed within and you can push it back after you're done. Great way to make use of the little space, isn't it?

Eat In Design

Even giving a thought about eating within a galley kitchen can give some a shock, but there are ways in which you can enjoy a meal, seated right in your galley kitchen. You just need to have some exceptional space management ideas. For instance, you can have a curved counter at the entrance of the kitchen, which extends into a round at the kitchen counter, with the sink on one side and the cooking range on the other. You can plug electrical appliances like the microwave, blender, coffee maker, etc. at different spots on the counters and have cabinets built around them, so as to avoid constant removal and storage of appliances. These cabinets will also serve as the pantry.

Coming up with perfect galley kitchen remodeling ideas is something that only you can do based upon what your kitchen looks like and what you want it to look like. Just keep one thing in mind: the aisle should be at least 4 to 5 feet wide, so as to enable people to move around easily to, from and within the kitchen.
