The bankruptcy rules in Michigan, as in the rest of the country, changed in 2005. That's when the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act went into effect. Residents of Michigan can file Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection once every eight years and Chapter 13 bankruptcy as often as they'd like, though they can only have one case open at a time.
