mould due to cavity wall insulation - Cavity Wall Insulating Material Issues
Do properties possess a cavity?
Prior to 1924, nearly all properties were built without a cavity. That is also known as 'solid wall construction'. With a cavity or air gap between both layers of brickwork, most properties were built from 1924 onwards. Many people believe that a cavity was added to prevent water from passing to the inside from the outside and that filling the cavity having an insulating material will enable this to happen. Properties were built with a cavity as they are more economical and faster to assemble. In addition, if it did cause a significant amount of problems, the Authorities and Utility Companies wouldn't be spending billions of pounds insulating properties that are elderly, as they have done since the late 1990's.
