How To Easily Turn Your Garden Organic
Organic gardening is wonderfully therapeutic and anyone can enjoy it. However, for a beginner, the whole gardening experience can be a very intimidating thing to enter into. How should a novice learn how to properly garden? All you have to do is read the following suggestions.

Organic indoor plants may need additional light sources to make up for the light they miss out on by being indoors. This needs to be considered. If your house or apartment doesn't get a lot of natural light, one option is to grow something that only requires medium or low light. You can also try using artificial lighting to help.

Seeds that have sprouted don't require the extra warmth that was needed before they sprouted. As your plants grow, move them away from the source of heat. If you used plastic wrap to insulate your seedlings, you should now remove it. Watch your seeds carefully to know when you can take these steps.

Put an organic material, such as mulch two or three inches deep, in your flower beds. This is a simple method of discouraging weeds, retaining moisture, and adding excellent nutrients into the garden. This also gives your flower beds a more aesthetic aspect.

To avoid tracking the mud and dirt that will get on your gardening shoes, use plastic bags. Doing this prevents lengthy work interruptions, and allows you to finish the job quickly.

Pine needles make a great organic mulch. A number of plants commonly grown in garden settings do best in an acidic soil. Pine needles to line the bed of your garden are easy to find for these kinds of plants. Simply add a layer of pine needles a couple of inches deep to the plant beds. The needles will decompose over time and provide the soil with acidity.

Make sure you consider adequate spacing when planting your garden, so that each plant is given room enough to grow and flourish. It is easy to underestimate the amount of space that the plants will take up once they start to grow. The plants will inevitably need to unfurl and spread, but they also need the circulation of air from open spaces. Try to plan your garden and place sufficient distance in between your seedlings.

The simple beer trap is still one of the best methods of ridding your organic garden of slugs. First, place a glass canning jar in the soil, burying it until the mouth is even with the surface of the soil. After you have placed the jar in the soil, fill with beer to approximately one inch of the top. Beer attracts slugs and then they'll get stuck in the jar.

If you are building a raised bed utilize stone, brick or wood that is untreated. For best results, you should only use wood that has not been treated with chemicals or protective coating. The most popular options for this type of project are cypress, locust and cedar woods. Treated wood has chemicals that can be harmful to a vegetable garden. If you're using treated lumber, line it with a barrier, or some plastic.

The best feature of organics is that they are pesticide free. This will improve your family's overall health, but it does mean you have to be extra vigilant about checking for pest infestations.

Grow organic garlic. You should plant garlic cloves in either early spring or late fall. Your soils should be well-drained. Place them about one to two inches deep in the soil, pointed end up, and four inches apart. Cut the green garlic shoots and use them as a substitute for chives or scallions. When the bulbs begin turning brown on top, they are ready for harvesting. Place the freshly picked bulbs in the sun, and let them dry and harden for a couple of days. Store the cloves in a cool area. They can be tied or left loose.

A perennial garden can be set up in a few easy steps. Use a spade to cut swatches of turf free, turn them, and then bury the whole area under a thick layer of wood chips. Wait a few weeks and then plant your perennials into the brand new bed.

You need to mulch your garden with about three inches of material that is organic. The soil will be nourished and will be able to retain more moisture. Also, weeds won't grow as easily and the whole area will more professional.

A soaker hose is the best choice for watering an organic garden. These hoses deliver water directly to the roots of your plants and keep their leaves dry. Soaker hoses don't use as much water as sprinklers, and make it easy to water plants.

By now you probably are beginning to understand why so many people enjoy working in their gardens. Having a properly grown garden can be fun and relaxing. With the tips presented above at the forefront of your mind, you can begin to grow delicious organic produce like a professional.
