4 "Must Haves" = Top Internet Business
Clearly what happened is that some networking part was not correctly configured to deal with the server failure. BT has seen the cost of projects go down by 19% and they have seen their IT productivity more than double.

Buying IT on price is in my opinion a huge mistake and one that you will regret. Yes, of course budget is a consideration but you need to understand the real cost of the deal. Does the cheap cost include on-site visits or will you get stung when an on-site need arises? does the cheap price cover all aspects of your IT support? check the small print.

Barefoot: There are three things that are vital to my job. One is being detailed in documenting all the changes to the software. The government has documentation standards that are required. Plus, detailed documentation is just a good programming practice. We use a couple of software packages to track our changes so I have to know how to use those.

Nobody ever said that the job of CIO was going to be easy, but man - they never told you that it was going to be this hard! Keeping the company safe from IT threats could be a full time job in of itself. It turns out that your greatest threat may not come from outside, but rather may come from the inside...

As the CIO you need to make sure that you fully understand what assets you need protect. You can't protect everything, so make sure that what you do protect is the most important. Take the time to learn from past attacks. If you don't, you'll be forced to repeat the learning over and over again. Finally, realize that your vendors may open a door to your IT Systems that could end up costing you a great deal.

If a problem appears later on it should correct itself within a week if it is normal day to day issues. If it isn't corrected within a week, you are creating a nightmare. Get onto the problem have the hard conversation and deal application delivery controllers with it.

21. Companies take on IT Contractors in the early stages of the recovery as they don't yet have the confidence to take on permanent IT workers yet (or they may not be legally able to as they have so recently laid off a whole load of them).

The article went on to point out that CIOs are being relegated to reporting to the CFO. This basically reinforces the view of the IT department as simply being a cost center. Of course there is a plus side to having a good CIO/CFO relationship; however, I think that losing access to the CEO has got to be a bad thing for both the CIO and his IT team.

Make a list of hardware and software you possess. Or maybe you can convince your IT Support person to help you with the documentation. Make a note of everything, including networking devices, software applications and operating systems.

It is important never to underestimate the power of a business contact. Any place a business owner spends money, is going to look at them fondly. They want them to come back. So if they can pass work their way, they will. Many businesses find that the places they buy from actually refer work to them. This is a business relationship that really works and it is a real win-win situation for everyone that is involved.

If there seems a difficulty later on it should correct itself within a week if it is normal daily problems. Low-E only means low emissivity, and it's merely a very thin coating consisting of metallic properties.
