How To Unblock Your Sink Or Blocked Bathtub
Unblocking or unclogging sink wastes can be difficult, especially if you decide to do an amateur plumbing job and take various bits of waste pipe apart. I've found that Ecover do sell a drain unblocker - available from though I haven't tested it. And you could try cleaning out the trap - this is the u shaped tube that connects your sink to the wastewater pipe; there's no need to call a plumber, it is a fairly easy job and you can find advice on youtube.

I put baking soda, and vinegar in, let stand 30 minutes (1 CUP BAKING SODA - 1 CUP VINEGAR, clog was BAD!) After 30min - 1hr flush with Large amount of boiling water… TRY IT! FOR A BACKED-UP TOILET: Start by filling a bucket with water (I use hot water from the shower). Leave it for a few minutes so it has time to break down the deposits in the sink. When about 5 minutes has elapsed, slowly run some water into the sink, increasing the water pressure if the sink appears to be clear. If the sink still isn't clear, repeat the process of creating a solution and pouring it down the sink. Then I rinse with a capful of apple cider vinegar diluted in a mug of water.

A plunger is the simplest and most available solution for this (and it's best to use a sink plunger - without the turned out flange) but it doesn't push through as much air. Sometimes a plunger just isn't going to get it. So this is may have a little validity. The water flushes without any problems and even if it would hald for a second, i can just grab the blockers right out of the sink and throw it into the trashcan. For those things i use "rohrfrei" (german) some chemical that removes the nasty stuff that was poured down the sink completely. Use baking soda and vinegar solution - pour some hot water down your drains, then dump in a certain amount of baking soda.

You may wish to increase the strength of the solution, however please be mindful that the level of potential hazard will rise in line with blocked sink with garbage disposal the strength of the solution - if a 20% solution will not break down the deposits in the sink you may require something other than Sodium Hydroxide (such as Sulphuric Acid, which is better at breaking down things like hair build up, although please do not pour Sulphuric Acid down the sink immediately after using Sodium Hydroxide - it will have a very aggressive reaction, and may even boil as soon as they come into contact with one another!).

Both the sinks and toilet in your home are attached to what is referred to as the ‘foul water drain'; a drain which as it name might suggest takes waste water and waste products away from the home and into the main sewage system.

I have to resort to this when my shower drain blocks up as I can't get underneath it and vinegar etc isn't strong enough. If you get a curtain wire and unscrew the "hook" - then thread it GENTLY down the drain and "wiggle it" that should help a lot. I then pushed a bendy wire down the pipe as far as it would go and did some serious wiggling about. I've just thought of something else - before you buy a plunger try holding a cloth tightly over the overflow outlet with one hand whist using the heel of your hand as a plunger with the other.

Put some water in the sink, basin, bath or shower tray and stand the pump in it. Pull up on the handle to fill it with water. Use the rods then as a giant plunger, pushing and pulling up and down the pipe.
