Wordpress 101: Everything You Had to Know
You must have the proper knowledge. This is true in many situations, including starting a great blog. If you'd like to learn more, read on! This article will help you begin when using WordPress. Keep reading to find out more.

Enable different types of avatars on your website. This will make your site very Website Design Inspiration fun and friendly for the users who visit it. Also, it will allow you to get across your personality in a better way. To find this component, visit the discussion area on your dashboard under settings.

Remember that the title and description of each page on your site is what many other sites will use to categorize your link and share it with the world. For example, it will be what Google shows when someone searches for a site such as your own. Fill them with SEO key phrases and make sure there are no typos.

Connect posts with the internal linking plugin. This will help your readers find content they like. These plugins add a list of three to five links at the bottom of each post based on the relevance of the tags on all of the posts on your site.

Don't forget to use spellcheck. It may seem obvious now, but many people forget to do it. When using the WordPress editor to post to your blog, make sure you take advantage of its spellcheck function. Even if you have already proofread your post, a quick and simple spellcheck couldn't hurt.

Don't forget to spellcheck your WordPress story. WordPress makes that easy through a spellcheck button on the editor itself. Look for a button that has the letters "ABC" on it. It'll then scan your post for spelling and common grammatical errors. Check any word or phrase that has a red squiggly line under it.

You can schedule blog posts using WordPress. You can schedule them to auto-post any time you like, even if you're away from your computer. You can do this by tapping into the Publish box on your edit screen. There should be an option for immediate publication. Next to it is a place to input time and date. Input your time in military format. Hit "OK." Check "Schedule For" and press "Schedule."

If you haven't customized your WordPress sidebar, it could be cluttered with useless items that are doing nothing but confusing your readers. Your sidebar should only contain things you actually want visitors to click on. Navigate to Appearance & Widgets to edit the appearance of your sidebar and remove anything there that doesn't actually benefit you or your visitors directly.

Take the time to log out of your site every once in a while. Go back and look at it as a visitor. Doing so could allow you to see something that you are missing when you are logged in as an administrator. This step will not take very long, but it should set your mind at ease that everything is functioning the way that it should be.

Your username should not be generic. Doing so subjects your blog to bots. This is an unnecessary security risk to take. Be sure to delete usernames containing "admin" or "administrator". Use a different and unique username.

If you just want to dabble in Wordpress without installing it on your web hosting account, consider opening an account with Wordpress.com. You will get a subdomain to the Wordpress domain, and your blog is hosting by Wordpress for free. This is a good way to get your feet wet into blogging.

Most visitors to your WordPress site will have some type of social media account, whether it is Facebook or Twitter. If they see something and want to share it on their accounts, you want to make that process as easy as possible. Therefore, download a plugin that allows for social sharing.

Never use a word like "admin" as your username. Bots will attack your blog if you make your username ADMINISTRATOR or ADMIN. Then, your entire site is at risk. Look at each individual page on your site and change admin or administrator usernames. Choose another username altogether.

Check that you are using the most up to date WordPress version on your site. With each update, new security patches are rolled out. You are more likely to be attacked by malware if you have an old version of WordPress. Thus, make a point to install WordPress updates as soon as they are available.

If you have made a mistake in spelling of a name in multiple posts, or just want to change a certain word across your site, use the Search and Replace plugin to do the job for you. The time it takes to do this manually is horrific, so instead let the plugin get it done.
