To get healthy, you have to be committed, which is also true for muscle development--you have to be dedicated to getting bigger muscles. But, where do you begin? Always take in enough vegetables. Discussions about good diets for bodybuilding tend to obsess over complex carbohydrates and proteins; vegetables are largely ignored. Vegetables give you important nutrients which aren't in foods that usually have a lot of protein or carbs. Of course, vegetables contain a ton of fiber, as well. When you are consuming fiber, your body will be able to better use the protein that you eat.

It seems a lot of people that work out go for speed over technique. Regardless of the exercise performed, the repetitions should be slower while you focus on the technique. You are sure to get better results using this approach as opposed to churning out an equal number of repetitions quickly. Go slow, and ensure that you are doing exercises in the correct manner.

Though creatine is safe for use when trying to build muscle mass, there are precautions you must be aware of. You should stay away from creatine if you have any kind of kidney problems. Creatine can also bring on cardiac arrhythmias, muscle cramps and muscle compartment syndrome. Teenagers are particularly affected. Be sure you keep your creatine intake at or below suggested safety levels.

Ramp up your food intake on days when you will be doing your muscle-building workouts. Consume protein and other calories the hour before exercising. The idea is to eat enough to fuel your body for the workout, not to overindulge.

Be sure that you add in as many reps and sets as possible as you workout. Do fifteen lifts in a set, and take very short breaks before starting new sets. This can help to increase the flow of lactic acids, which help muscle growth. If you do this a couple of times each session, you will see great results.

Don't allow your workouts to exceed one hour in duration. Your body will produce more stress hormone, called cortisol, if you exceed an hour long workout. Cortisol may block testosterone, wasting effort you put toward building your muscle. You will optimize your efforts by keeping your workouts short and intense.

One of the most important things you can do to aid in bodybuilding is to stretch after working out. If you are under 40 years old, maintain the stretch for at least 30 seconds. If you are over 40, hold the stretch for a minimum of 60 seconds. A good stretch helps to protect your muscle against injury during your workout.
