How To Make Your Cat Happy And Healthy
Your cat is a very special member of the family. That's why you should do everything you can to make sure that they don't get fleas, ticks, and other parasites. They have needs that are different from dogs, and they should not be treated the same way. Keep reading for great tips on keeping your cat healthy.

Make sure you keep all the recommended appointments with your cat's veterinarian. The vet will be able to provide your cat with needed vaccinations and any medications it requires. Veterinarians also keep tabs on your cat's overall health and diagnose any problems they find. Try keeping the same vet throughout your cat's life. This helps make sure your vet knows your cat's history.

Heated tiles are great to put under a cat bed, especially for the comfort of aging felines. Just heat a one-foot square terra cotta tile in your oven at about 200 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Wrap it tightly in a towel and place it under the cat bed. If you want, change it now and then so the warmth continues.

If your cat is a female, you'll want to spay her once she reaches the proper age. This is true even if you think your cat is indoors only. One escape can lead to a lot of small kittens around! Unless you want the hassle of getting rid of kittens, spaying is the best option for your cat.

An outdoor cat must always wear a tag on its collar. Cats can travel far, and a tag will help you find the cat easier if they get lost. Be sure that the pet's name and also your home number are on the tag.

Your cat's claws can wreck havoc on your furniture. If you have a cat that is wreaking havoc, buy a scratching post. Give them some encouragement and let them know it is okay to scratch that. It may take some time, but will be worth the effort and expense.

It can be hard to prevent your cat from jumping on the counter. Cats instinctively want to be at a high vantage point so they can survey their surroundings. Provide your cat with a few high places it can uses. Having a cat tower near your kitchen will keep them off your counters.

Cats generally will meow for a reason. After you have coexisted with a pet cat for a long while, you are sure to figure out its meowing patterns. She may be hungry, or she may want you to let her outside. You'll learn her cues quickly.

Make sure you are cautious about leaving a young child alone with a small kitten. If a child is under the age of five, you should not leave the pet alone with them. A child of that age doesn't realize when they are being too rough with a pet. Once the child is older and more mature, decide if they are ready for the responsibility of handling animals.

Cats like to be up high. Designating a high-up area where your cat can hang out and watch everything from will help him to feel comfortable. If a cat tree is not your style, clear off a sturdy shelf that he can jump up on. You can even lay down a blanket to give your kitty some comfort.

Pay attention if your cat suddenly stops using the litter box properly. It may be the sign of an underlying medical issue. Sometimes, abnormal urination habits indicate an infection of the urinary tract. A course of antibiotics often does the trick.

You should worry if your cat is no longer using its litter box. Using the bathroom outside of the litter box is linked to a number of cat health issues. A urinary infection or a kidney problem could be responsible for your cat's behavior. Call your veterinarian right away if your cat doesn't use the litter box.

If you have a cat who is pregnant, make sure that you give her a private spot that is closed away from other animals and has room for her to move in easily. The birth of the kittens will take approximately four hours, so use a little patience. If you suspect that there are more kittens inside your cat and it has been six hours of labor or more, you should take your cat to the veterinarian immediately.

If your pet is avoiding its litter box, try moving it to a different spot. Make sure to put it in a quiet spot in your house. A couple of good places to put your cat box are your basement and laundry room.

Dogs let you know when they are excited and/or happy when they wag their tails. Cats move their tails for a very different reason. If your cats tail is wagging, it could indicate that the animal is facing a fight-or-flight situation. It also suggests possible conflict or uncertainty. If you're holding the cat and their tail begins wagging, they should be put down so that you don't get scratched or hit.

You should get a collar with your contact information and make sure your cat wears it all the time. Even an indoor cat can get out. It is important that you provide a way that they can get back home if that should happen.

Some food you eat isn't good to feed your cat. Some of these foods include garlic, grapes, onions and green tomatoes. These foods are healthy for humans, but they can make cats very sick. Refrain from feeding your cat dairy products as well.

Try and incorporate dry food into your cats diet. Kittens need wet food more than adult cats because it's easier to chew. Once they grow adult teeth, they benefit from chewing dry food. For those cats who are picky eaters, a mixture of both dry and wet food usually does the trick.

Just like all cats in the world, yours is just as susceptible to contracting parasites. They will not go away on their own and need to be treated as soon as they are noticed. Featured methods can be used to remove them. Your cat is sure to thank you.
