Playing just five days after a Monday night loss to Boise State, Virginia Tech was shocked by James Madison in a 21-16 upset over the 13th-ranked Hokies. Everyone was talking about how impressive Boise was to win in a largely Va Tech crowd in Landover, Maryland, but now James Madision marched into Blacksburg and defeated Frank Beamer and company.
Virginia Tech led 16-7 in the third before James Madison scored on 7-yard Drew Dudzik run with four minutes left in the third. Dudzik then struck again with a 12-yard touchdown run just a minute and 15 seconds into the fourth quarter. Neither team scored again. Ryan Williams ran for 91 yards on 20 carries for Virginia Tech while Tyrod Taylor accounted for 210 total yards including 86 on the ground. He had a touchdown pass and an interception.
