N.V.G.R.D.L.C. #1: Hyrule Warriors: Master Quest
And so its been over a month since Hyrule Warriors released its first DLC pack, the Master Quest pack. To coincide with the update that was released at the time, the three main villains of the first half of the game Cia, Wizzro, and Volga are playable for everyone, even those who did not buy the DLC. Again, like in my main review of Hyrule Warriors, they certainly feel different than the characters already in the game.

The DLC itself provides Link with a new weapon in the form of Epona, a costume for Cia and Lana based on their original appearance as the guardian of the Triforce, a new branch of the Legend Mode story to explain Cia's story, and the Master Quest Adventure map. If you thought that the Adventure Mode was hard, this one pushes you to your limits. Unfortunately for those without DLC, Cia, Wizzro, and Volga will not be able to get any upgrades to their weapons so if you want their Level 2 and 3 weapons, this pack is required. The map is relatively the same as the standard adventure mode though the method to unlock the rewards have changed so do not expect to use the same methods use in the original NES Zelda to work here. Its a bit frustrating but it does not take away from the mode. The challenges on the map are very similar to their incarnations on the original Adventure Map but you will have additional conditions added like the inability to heal, use items, or going on a damageless run. Rewards on this map still include the Heart Containers, 8-bit versions of weapons (all Lv 3 equivalent), and palette swaps for the characters. I felt no true desire to unlock all of the heart containers and I mainly focused on the weapons and swaps.

While yes the mode gives a considerable amount of content through challenges, I personally felt that this pack did not provide me enough to drive me to complete the map other than to get palette swaps and the weapons for the three main villains. It certainly is worth $5 in lieu of the rest of the future DLC, but by itself, I don't feel the need to complete it compared to how much I'm getting from the original Adventure mode itself. I will not deny that it is fun, but I don't feel the same drive to complete the Master Quest map.

Nonny's DLC Rating: 6/10. It's not a bad DLC pack, but I really feel like it just rehashed the Adventure Mode and added a few extra things off the bat to satisfy some. I'd say, do not buy this solo. Buy it with the full pack. I'm sure the others will be worth it.
