Malaysian Islam is moderated by the gentle nature of southeast Asians in general, and a heck of a lot of Hindu and Buddhist influence. In fact, a Malaysian's categories of thought and vocabulary on all significant, transcendant, and ponderous matters come from Hinduism and Sanskrit. In general, it's more moderate than Islam in Turkey, and the people are nicer and gentler. Other religions and their missionaries aren't under anywhere near as tight restrictions or threat as they are in the Middle East.
