There are two distinct families of fatty Z-VEID-FMK desaturases which do not seem to be evolutionary related. The family II of the desaturases includes plant stearoyl-ACP desaturase (EC:1.14.99.6) that is responsible for the conversion of saturated fatty acids to unsaturated fatty acids in the synthesis of vegetable oils. And the other family, cyanobacteria desA, an enzyme that belongs to a type 4 acyl-lipid desaturase can introduce a second cis double bond at the delta position of fatty acid bound to membrane glycerolipids [7]. Recently, it has been reported that the change of fatty acid levels is involved in resistance (R) gene-mediated defense mechanism [8]. In this study, we carried out functional studies of CaFAD1 to investigate the possibility of its involvement in R gene-dependent defense signaling in hot pepper plants.
Materials and methods
cDNA microarray and analyses. Generation, probe preparation, hybridization, and scanning of microarray were carried out as described [9].
RT-PCR analysis. The oligonucleotide primers permitted us to amplify the differentially displayed cDNA fragments ( Additional file 1).
