Romance And Pleased Marriage Myths
With gas prices rising, there's no better time than now to consider vehicle maintenance.

'Proper car attention is important through the vacation season,' said Rich White, executive director of the Car Care Council. 'With fuel charges exceeding an average $2 per gallon for the very first time in history, performing a couple of basic, inexpensive maintenance assessments can make road trips both safe and fuel-efficient.'

In light of the higher gasoline prices, the Automobile Care Council suggests you focus on these items:

* Vehicle gas caps. About 17 percent of the cars on the roads have gas hats that are often broken, loose or are missing altogether, causing 147 million gallons of gas to vaporize annually.

* Under-inflated tires. It is just like though you are driving with the parking brake on, which could cost you a mile or two per gallon, when tires aren't filled precisely.

* Worn spark plugs. A vehicle can have both four, six or eight spark plugs which fire as many as 3 million times every 1,000 miles, producing a lot of heat and electrical and chemical erosion. A filthy spark plug causes misfiring, which wastes fuel. Spark plugs must be changed frequently.

* Dirty air filters. An air

filter that is clogged with dirt, dust and insects chokes off the air and makes a 'rich' mix - a lot of gas being burned for the amount of air, which wastes gas and causes the engine to lose power. Replacing a clogged air filter can increase fuel consumption by as much as 10 %, preserving about 15 cents per gallon.

Below are a few fuel-saving driving tips-from the Vehicle Care Council:

* Don't be an aggressive driver. Extreme driving may lower gas mileage by around 33 percent on the road and 5 percent on city streets, which wastes 7 cents to 49 cents per gallon. * Avoid excessive idling. Sitting bored gets zero miles per gallon. Letting the car warm up for one to two minutes is sufficient.

* Take notice of the speed limit. Fuel consumption decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph. Each mile influenced more than 60 mph will result in an additional cost of 1-0 cents per gallon. To keep up a constant speed on the highway, use cruise control.

The Car Care Council could be the way to obtain information for that 'Be Car Care Aware' campaign, educating people about the benefits of regular vehicle maintenance and repair..
