Arsenal and Tottenham are facing a battle to land Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck after Sunderland entered the race, according to reports.
The England striker has reportedly demanded to leave after growing tired of playing second fiddle to Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
United boss Louis van Gaal is thought to have given the green light to selling him, though he refused to give anything away at his press conference.
“The media were not in the room and I do not speak about that because that’s private,” Van Gaal said. “I know what I said to Danny and Danny knows exactly what I said to him.”
Arsenal are keen along with long-term admirers Tottenham, with both clubs considering making offers for his services.
Bu according to the Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats are preparing a move for the player who represented them on loan during 2010/11.
United value the player at around £15m with Van Gaal keen to move him on if he is not committed to the cause.
Welbeck has just 18 months on his contract so United know this is their last chance to receive a significant fee for the player.
