You must gradually introduce your plants to changing conditions and temperatures, so you do not shock them. Leave them outside in sunlight for a couple of hours on the initial day. Throughout the week, you should leave your plants out for a little longer each day. After a week's time, the plants should be fine staying outside.

When choosing plants, pick those that produce a high yield. Traditional strains are often out-performed by hybrids that have been bred for cold tolerance or disease resistance.

Make garden tools do double duty as handy makeshift rulers. Large handled tools like rakes, hoes or shovels may be used like measuring sticks. Lay the tools down on the floor, then place a measuring tape along the handle. Use a permanent marker to label distances. When the need arises to measure something while in your garden, the measuring tool you need will literally be "on hand," sketched into the handles of your tools.

Prior to planting anything in your garden, check your soil. You can get a soil analysis, and if you find your soil needs a supplement, do it! It can avoid ruined vegetables and flowers, so check with places, such as a cooperative extension department to see where you can obtain the analysis.

Make sure you remove the weeds from your garden! Weeds can truly ruin a good garden. White vinegar has been known to kill weeds quickly. It can kill weeds. If you don't want to take the time to remove the weeds by hand, simply spray them with a white vinegar solution.

You should divide irises. Increase your iris population when you divide up overgrown clumps. Pick up bulbous irises after the foliage dies. As soon as you pick up the bulb, it'll split into pieces. That's okay - in fact, it's desirable. You can replant the bulb pieces and next year you'll have a healthy bed of new irises. Divide rhizomes with a knife. Cut rhizomes from around the outside then throw away the remaining center. At the least, each piece will need to have one strong offshoot. Immediately replant all your selected cuttings.

You can alleviate this problem by planting grasses that your cat will naturally gravitate towards. Offensive smells also work to repel cats and other pesky animals from eating your plants. Try putting mothballs, citrus peels, garlic and other pungent items on the topsoil.

Don't use broad-spectrum pesticidal products anywhere in your gardening area. If your pesticide has too wide a range of targets, it can kill off useful insects that fight off other pests. The bugs you need are often more fragile than the ones you don't: a pesticide could actually kill the beneficial insects while leaving the pests unaffected. As a result, gardeners often have to resort to using more toxic pesticides to get rid of garden pests.

As you have seen, it is easy to grow tasty vegetables and fruits in your own garden. Making meals with your own fresh produce will mean dining memories you are proud of. Put the points in the preceding paragraphs into play if you want to maximize your gardening efforts.
